Lush The Blonde (love!)

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

I’ve been all about trying new shampoos lately. I promise to provide a full run down, but since I don’t want to bore you with all shampoo all the time, I’ll try to keep it to just a couple per week.

I love this amazingly natural shampoo bar from Lush. It lathers very well for a solid shampoo and leaves my hair shiny and silky. I don’t always use a conditioner when I shampoo with the Blonde!

The website and any Lush store employee will tell you how completely natural this product is. In fact, it is so natural and environment friendly, it received Lush’s Vegan stamp. Which means, “this product does not contain animal products of any kind.”

Lush promises the Blonde is for every tow head. “A beautiful, creamy soft shampoo to gently cleanse and slowly lighten; the Blonde is for natural blondes who want to be blonder and bottle blondes who want to look like natural blondes. Chamomile infusion and flowers lighten the hair and soothe the scalp so we put scoops of that in. Then we add lemon, mandarin and orange to cleanse and brighten dull locks. Go from bland to blonde by washing with this daily.”

I particularly enjoy using it on vacation. I’ve found it’s quite like a natural, less damaging version of Sun In!

Oribe 24K Gold Pomade (love!)

Monday, April 19th, 2010

I know you read pomade and you think of George Clooney in O Brother, Where Art Thou? But let me tell you, this is not George’s pomade.

The product promises, “super-rich gold highlights for instant lustrous glamour. Excellent for use on pleasure craft, in convertibles or anywhere a little 24-karat seduction is needed.”

Directions: Smooth onto wet or dry hair and style.

CAUTION: It will get all oer your hands and turn everything you touch gold. I suggest getting dressed FIRST (if possible), throwing an old towel over your shoulders and THEN applying. Make sure to wash your hands after.

Made with “real gold dust” this is not for use every day. I use it for events or when I want to glam it up.

Scruples Soothing Polish (love!)

Friday, April 9th, 2010

I have crazy hair. There, I said it. It has a mind of its own. It can be ringlet curly or kinky, but is only straight on the first layer or when I take my beloved Chi to it. I do not have the coveted wake up and brush hair.

That being said, I can’t imagine my life without this product. I use it after every wash when my hair is still damp (per the instructions). It leaves my curls soft, shiny and so much more manageable.

I notice less frizz and even less tangles. What can I say? I’m trying to grow my unruly hair for the first time since maybe 1999.

I even love using this product when I straighten my hair. It seems to help keep my hair straighter for longer.

The scent isn’t amazing, but it works and doesn’t over power the senses even when combined with hair spray. Enjoy!

L’Oreal Healthy Look Creme Gloss Color (hate!)

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

I don’t love hair color commitment, which is why I was so excited about this product.

The L’Oreal website promises “natural-looking color with glossy, healthy-looking shine in just 10 min. The ammonia free formula deeply nourishes hair while also helping to counter dullness and prevent damage.” All that for just a 28 shampoo commitment!

I selected 8 Medium Blonde Vanilla Cream. Only a shade lighter than my dark blonde/light brown natural hair color. At minimum I expected subtle highlights from the promise on the back of the box. After all the hype, however, I was expecting to be wowed.

I followed the instructions exactly. Applied until my hair was saturated, then combed through. Waited 10 minutes. Washed it out. The smell was not as over powering as other hair colors, but I did leave the bathroom fan going just in case.

I towel dried and then blow dried just to make sure. My hair color did not change. At all. No highlights. Not even subtle changes, just the hair color smell. And some irritated bumps around my scalp from the extra brushing and where I accidentally dripped the color.

While I am happy I will not have any root issues. I feel like I wasted my money and time. Next time, I’ll just save up and head to the nearest Aveda salon.
