C. O. Bigelow Mentha Vitamin Body Wash # 1411 (love!)

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

I finally found a replacement for my beloved H2O + Mint Ice (I lamented about it’s loss here)!

At the advice of a friend, we went to the local Bath and Body Works store. She had me close my eyes while she opened the Bigelow Mentha Vitamin Body Wash # 1411 under my nose. Instantly, I was filled with the wonderful aroma of true peppermint. I immediately bought a tube.

After one use, I was sold. It’s got the cool, refreshing, tingle I’ve sorely missed. It’s my favorite way to start the morning or cool down after a summer run.

True to it’s word, this “mint-infused body wash provides an invigorating sensation while cleansing and refreshing skin. Our wake-you-up formula deeply nourishes with Vitamins A, C & E to keep skin extra-healthy and looking it’s best.”

My skin is softer after a few uses.

Don’t Forget Your Throat and Neck! (advice!)

Monday, June 14th, 2010

At a mini-facial I received over the weekend, I got some great advice: When applying lotion to your face in the morning and at night, don’t stop at your jaw line! Keep going and add it to your throat and neck. You can even add it to your Décolletage.

This is especially important for any anti-aging or anti-wrinkle cream.

Think about it, if you are religious in your skincare routine, your face will be flawless. But what’s the point of a flawless face, if your throat and neck are covered with wrinkles?

Origins Clear Improvement (love!)

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

I love a good facial. There’s just something about going to a spa and having someone paint a mask and cleanser on my face while I relax and breath in amazingly relaxing aromas that is pretty blissful.

I don’t always have time to get to a spa. While, sad, and less relaxing, I’ve learned how to get the same deep cleaning and moisturizing at home.

The mask of choice for me is the Origins Clear Improvement. I can paint it on as thick or as thin as I wast. The thicker the more time it takes to dry and the longer I have to sit still. The thinner and it is just enough to watch a half hour tv show.

As the mask dries, it tightens my face. It feels great. That’s how I know the active charcoal is working.

As the Origins website will tell you this mask is for “when environmental toxins, dirt and debris get under your skin, its waste-filtering system gets jammed, pores get clogged, skin looks cloudy.”

This mask is “nature’s complexion clean-up crew.” It “gets to the bottom of skins overcast condition and clears the way for it to act its best. Activated Charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers, White China Clay absorbs environmental toxins, Lecithin dissolves impurities.”

It’s amazing. You have to try it for yourself.

Method hand wash sea minerals (love!)

Friday, May 7th, 2010

How many times a day do you wash your hands? If you’re like me maybe a million.

I can’t get enough of this hand soap. It smells wonderful, like the real ocean. It foams just right. It doesn’t leave any film behind or dry out my hands.

“soap’s job is to clean,” the website states. “not kill. so why do so many brag about their 99.99% death rate? if microbes can’t take it, what makes you think your hands can? do yourself a favor. try our non-toxic, triclosan-free hand wash. cleans like heck. smells like heaven. and no one has to get hurt.”

What’s not to love about that?

Not to mention it comes in refillable and planet friendly dispenser.

L’Oreal Everpure Moisture Shampoo (love!)

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I love this shampoo (I’ll get to the conditioner tomorrow, promise)! It left my hair super soft and manageable. The scent is subtle but delicious.

I especially love using this product after a workout. It takes away that greasy, salty irritation that wearing a pony tail for several hours can leave behind.

Everpure Moisture Shampoo left my curly hair less frizzy than many others and I can just let it air dry leaving behind soft, bouncy curls.

For the price, it’s worth at least trying once. Enjoy!

Origins Modern Friction (love!)

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

As I promised a regular Breakout Survival reader, I would share my secret to using this this amazing product.

I use this weekly and only use about a dime sized amount. My secret is that I get my face practically dripping wet. I apply the product and am very gentle. Then instead of using a wash cloth to remove it all, I just splash my face clean.

Then I use the wash cloth to make sure all the product is off.

I especially like using it in the shower. My face is already wet and it is so easy to make sure it is all off.

That’s it. That’s my secret.

The website says this product promises “Signs of fine lines and size of pores appear to shrink in size. Skin looks perfectly polished, smooth and luminous. And the perk-me-up aromas of Bergamot and Peppermint help you look on the bright side. Origins tested Modern Friction™ on a panel of 54 women. After just one try, of those who had undergone clinical micro-dermabrasion, 94% said they would now consider using Modern Friction instead.”

I can’t validate these statements as I’ve never had a chemical peel or other micro-dermabrasion (I’m a wuss), but I can say the exfoliation is amazing and my skin glows after using Modern Friction.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple (love!)

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

There is a good reason this product was named a winner by QVC, Sephora and Allure Magazine (among others!) it is amazing.

The website says, this product is for you, if:
“you’ve tried a lot of cleansers but never found one you loved
you crave deeply cleansed skin
you want a cleanser that will multi-task for you
you wear a lot of makeup
your skin is congested”

I’ve tried a million cleansers and not yet found one I loved. Until this one. I went to the Skincare Challenge at Sephora and they gave me a generous sample. After a week, I noticed a genuine difference in my skin. It seemed more supple, brighter and just overall healthier.

I love that this is one step and you are done. The smell is pleasant, not over powering and a little goes a long way. It feels like a facial every night.

Additionally, this amazing product is available in a great travel approved size in the check out line at Sephora for just $10! How could you go wrong!

I can’t recommend this product enough. I am tossing out all the other soaps, cleansers and make up removers.

Johnson’s Baby Shampoo (love!)

Friday, March 26th, 2010

As you may recall from an earlier post, I’ve been having a heck of a time trying to find the perfect brush cleaner. The search for the time being is over!

A friend of mine recommended I try Johnson’s Baby Shampoo. I finally took her advice this afternoon and my brushes have never been so clean! The caked in foundation came off so easily and much faster than any other method I’ve tried.

I’m thrilled with the results.

Witch Hazel (love!)

Friday, March 12th, 2010

I’ve tried many a toner in the last decade. Everything from Clinique’s Clarifying Lotion to Sea Breeze. I’ve loved none of them. Some dry my face out, other oil it up. My grandmother actually recommended using Witch Hazel instead. I LOVE IT.

It’s relatively inexpensive. It doesn’t leave my face with that tight feeling and removes all of the soapy residue left over from cleansing. It’s calming and doesn’t turn my face red, either. I now know why my grandmother has been using this for nearly 50 years.

Now that I’ve sung the praises of this amazing product there are a few other uses than just an astringent. Soothing sunburn, shaving nicks, insect bites and poison ivy. Enjoy!
