Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips (love!)

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

I’ve been using Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips since middle school. I love them.

The package claims these strips “instantly remove pore-clogging dirt, oil and blackheads” and “help reduce the appearance of pores with regular use.”

I know by looking at the back of one of the strips after I’ve used it, just how much gunk it took out of my skin.

If I use these strips too much, my sensitive skin does get irritated and if I leave one on too long, the sticky stuff does stick to my nose, but a quick swipe of a witch hazel soaked cotton ball does the trick.

I usually use them once a month or so at night, after I’ve washed my face to avoid extra irritation. The package says to use only every three days.

Biosilk Silk Therapy Hair Styling Serum (love!)

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

My stylist has been using this product on my hair for years. When I finally ran out of the discontinued Aveda Hang Straight, I jumped at the chance to buy a bottle of Biosilk.

Whether I wear my hair straight or curly, I love using Biosilk in it. A very small amount (a little goes a long way!) combats frizziness, even in the rain. And let me tell you about the shine! I’ve actually distracted myself when the sun hits my hair after using this product.

I use about a dime-sized amount in my mostly damp hair before I blow dry and then straighten. The slickness helps relax my curls and the coating protects it from the heat of the tools I use.

I’ve heard some stylists even use this on their hands when their hands get super dry from all that hair washing. I haven’t tried that myself, but I can’t imagine it wouldn’t work.

The scent is amazing, but subtle on my hair.

Aveda Air Control Hair Spray (love!)

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

This is the only hair spray I use. I use it when I straighten my hair, I use it when I leave it curly and when I pull it up.

Aveda Air Control Hair Spray tames fly-aways and sets my style without making it sticky, even mid-run. It washes out easily and doesn’t leave behind any residue.

I get more compliments on the scent of this hair spray than I do several perfumes I wear regularly. While some might call it strong and in the summer it is a bit stronger than in the winter, I find it to be refreshing and great smelling.

I keep a travel size version in my purse that I bought at the nearest Aveda salon. A little goes a long way and that bottle has lasted several months.

Bath and Body Works Tranquil Sleep (Original, lost!)

Monday, June 21st, 2010

I loved this scent. In the linen spray, in the bath soak, in the lotion, in absolutely everything.

I can’t even remember how I found it. It might have been a gift, I don’t know. But I rememebr how much I loved it.

I was so disappointed when Bath and Body Works discontinued it. I searched online and even bought a few of the bath soaks from e-Bay. Big mistake. The scent had changed in the tub and wasn’t right. What a waste.

Luckily for me, Bath and Body Works has tweaked the Aromatherapy line and added Lavender and Vanilla in their Aromatherapy Sleep collection. It seems every year, as my memory of the original fades, the Lavender and Vanilla scent gets closer and closer to Tranquil Sleep.

So while the original is lost, the new version is just as good. I hope this one sticks around.

Bath and Body Works Hairworks Banana Mint Deep Treatment (lost!)

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Before Bath and Body Works created their own line of shampoo and conditioners to go with their signature scents, they had Hairworks. Which I LOVED.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I miss this product. Bath and Body Works Hairworks Banana Mint Deep Treatment was the first hair mask I’ve ever tried. It tamed my curls, moisturized and smelled amazing (assuming you like the smell of bananas).

As I was writing this post, I found it available on E-bay. However, since it has been several YEARS (maybe even a decade) since this was produced I won’t buy it. Neither should you. These products do have a shelf life. They do go bad.

In my search I did find a recipe for a more natural (the original was labeled natural, but wasn’t so much) version of this and will have to give it a try. I promise to keep you Pretties updated and let you know how it goes!

Aveda Hand Relief (love!)

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

I’d forgotten how much I love this product until my manicure. A good Aveda manicure involves an extensive hand massage with this amazing stuff. It seeps into your skin and truly lives up to the promise of staying on through a few hand washings.

The product description reads: “Hydrating plant emollients, humectants, exfoliating fruit acids and anti-oxidants—including vitamins A and E—help diminish signs of aging and provide optimal relief. Increases moisture levels and elasticity in skin with continued use.” No lies here.

Hand Relief isn’t tacky or sticky and by the end of the manicure, my hands are soft and completely dry.

It is a bit pricey and you can’t buy the large “For Professional Use Only” tube, but I find when my hands are desperate, I love it.

Not to mention, Aveda is pretty great about offering this as a freebie on a regular basis. Just sign up for their mail and keep an eye out for the next post card.

C. O. Bigelow Mentha Vitamin Body Wash # 1411 (love!)

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

I finally found a replacement for my beloved H2O + Mint Ice (I lamented about it’s loss here)!

At the advice of a friend, we went to the local Bath and Body Works store. She had me close my eyes while she opened the Bigelow Mentha Vitamin Body Wash # 1411 under my nose. Instantly, I was filled with the wonderful aroma of true peppermint. I immediately bought a tube.

After one use, I was sold. It’s got the cool, refreshing, tingle I’ve sorely missed. It’s my favorite way to start the morning or cool down after a summer run.

True to it’s word, this “mint-infused body wash provides an invigorating sensation while cleansing and refreshing skin. Our wake-you-up formula deeply nourishes with Vitamins A, C & E to keep skin extra-healthy and looking it’s best.”

My skin is softer after a few uses.

OPI Ogre The Top Blue (love!)

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Last night I got a much needed and deserved manicure.

My safe side wanted to stick with the usual purple, pink or red polish, but then my eyes landed on Ogre The Top Blue, my wilder side took over and I was in love.

I wear turquoise a lot. In fact it is one of my favorite colors, but I’ve never thought to paint my nails with it!

This morning, I don’t regret my decision. My nails look good and the color has put me in a great mood. Ogre The Top Blue is super summery and just plan fun.

I would recommend using this on both your fingernails and toe nails. I’m thinking of getting a pedicure with this color next time.

The Body Shop’s The Spirit of Moonflower (lost!)

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Another discontinued gem. The Spirit of Moonflower is a “A decidedly feminine spritz just right for moonlit nights.”

A very dear friend gave me my first Spirit of Moonflower set (shower gel, lotion and spray) as a gift in 2002. I sought it out every few months for a long time. Then, unfortunately, I did not live near a The Body Shop for too long, ran out and subsequently forgot about it. Until I was at The Body Shop recently and asked for it. Imagine my surprise when the clerk kindly told me they had discontinued it. At least they were gentle!

The notes in this fragrance are amazing. “Top: melon, green complex, coriander, gardenia Middle: lily of the valley, moonflower, lime blossom, cyclamen Base: jasmine, rose.” They meld very well on summer skin.

Goodbye, Spirit of Moonflower. I’ll miss you!

Pencil Me In Eyeliner in Sky (love!)

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Why it took so long for eyeliner creators to think of putting a sharpener in the cap, I don’t know. But I do know, I love the concept and can’t get enough of Pencil Me In’s Eyeliner in sky.

My dear, reliable Shape Magazine told me that blue eyeliner is in and light blue is even more in. I now understand why! It makes my eyes pop.

This eyeliner goes on smooth and doesn’t pull at all.

According to the website, all Pencil Me In shades were “custom created to be unique and not replicate the ordinary shades in the market place.” Not to mention all the shades contain “anti-oxidants and vitamins which help to protect the eye area from daily exposure to destructive elements.”

Unlike other eyeliners, this doesn’t irritate my eyes at all. No itching!
