Product Review – Tom’s Relaxing Natural Beauty Bar

Tom's of Maine

Tom's Relaxing Natural Beauty Bar

I’ve been using Tom’s natural deodorant in the winter to reduce the amount of aluminum I am absorbing. I love the Lavender smell of the deodorant, and the Natural Beauty Bar (in relaxing) smells exactly the same — like a fragrant pot of lavender essential oil.

I took the beauty bar in the shower with me, and I was transported into a sulfate-free cloud of lavender bliss. My skin felt clean and fragrant, but not dried out. It lathers surprisingly well!

Product Review – Softlips Pure in Chai Tea

October 24th, 2010 by candace
SoftLips Pure in Chai Tea

SoftLips Pure in Chai Tea

I tried the Softlips Pure in Chai Tea and found it did a great job of refreshing my parched lips throughout the day. The scent was subtle but pleasant, and it left a faint flavor as well. I always have something to drink nearby, so I had to reapply often, but each time my lips were temporarily transformed into supple smackers. It’s a different, more earth conscious periodical alternative to my old standby, Carmex.

Product Review – Neutrogena Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelettes

August 24th, 2010 by candace

If you’ve read my blog or reviews, you know that I’m an extended-wear makeup junkie. If it doesn’t hold for 12+ hours, I’m not much interested.

Well, what happens at the end of the day when it’s time to take all that Spackle off?

Premium primers, long-wear shadows, all-day eyeliners, and waterproof mascaras are no match for these soft, non-oily towelettes. And the great part is that all you need to do is gently wipe! No chisel, Brillo pad, or baptism required. I’m ecstatic I’ve found these. Patent pending, no less!

Product Review – tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner

April 30th, 2010 by candace
tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner

tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner

I thought no one could beat Physicians Formula Eye Definer Felt-Tip Eye Marker as far as mid-priced eyeliner pens go, but this tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner is my new best friend. It’s as easy as a pencil to apply, and gives the dramatic look of a liquid without you ending up looking like you have war paint on. Add some Urban Decay’s Potion Primer and this stuff lasts for 24+ hours. Yep, you heard me right: the next day!!

Product Review – Very Hollywood by Michael Kors

April 24th, 2010 by candace
Very Hollywood by Michael Kors

Choose the regular or gold-plated version!

I received a deluxe sample of this, the latest perfume in Michael Kors’ fragrance arsenal with my last Sephora purchase. My first reaction to it was “Ugh, another gardenia scent.” After the dry down, I noticed some lovely citrus highlights, but the overpowering gardenia was just too strong to let them really shine. I wish he had taken out about 1/3 of the gardenia and brought the citrus up a bit.

Heat It Up! Week 4

April 21st, 2010 by candace

Hola chicas!

It seems as though the snow is gone for good (knock on wood), so I’m here this time to let you in a face-saving product that I don’t leave shade without! (Actually I use it all year round because it’s just so luxurious!)

Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer

I discovered this liquid gold last year when I was having trouble with foundations flaking off my face before noon. I went to Sephora and tried some richer products, hoping I’d find something that would suit me.

Enter Hourglass. Before that day, I’d never even heard of the brand, except to see it in passing at Sephora. But one I tried a pump of this liquid luxury on my parched skin, I was in love for life.

Granted, this stuff isn’t cheap at $55 a bottle. In fact, you could buy 4 of the drugstore brands for one bottle of this. But this is simply an area where I won’t skimp. Each bottle lasts me about 3  months, and I use it for daily wear.

It’s richer, thicker, and offers more coverage than, say, Stila’s version, but the glow, coverage, and moisture it provides surpasses that of any foundation, tinted moisturizer, or concealer.

I wear it over my CoQ10 lotion for a perfectly hydrated, flawless, sun-friendly finish.

Product Review – Sally Hansen Color Quick Chrome Pen

March 18th, 2010 by candace

I got it in silver.

I love the look of chrome Minx nails, as seen by Beyoncé and Rihanna, but I won’t pay $40 for something that lasts only 2 days. At $7.79 for a tube, you’re looking at 1-2 days max with Sally Hansen’s chrome line. They are quick dry, so you won’t spend hours applying it and waiting for it to dry. Sixty seconds for the paint and another sixty to remove yesterday’s? I’m down.

Heat It Up (Week 3)

March 18th, 2010 by candace

Hello lovelies!

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I have been out of town attending to a family emergency. Because life happens, I decided to dedicate this week’s Heat It Up! post to a few travel needs I decided I won’t leave home without anymore.

1) Antibacterial Body Wash

Not only will it get those little hotel microbes off you, you can also use it to wash out panties and socks by hand. I prefer Dial’s Spring Water scent for its potent fragrance. Don’t forget to place it in a TSA approved bottle if you’re flying.

2) Cutex One Step Nail Polish Remover Pads, Non-Acetone

You never know when your perfect mani will chip. Have a few of these pads and some Nic’s Sticks in a light color for a clean, pro look without sitting in a nail salon in a strange city.

3) Purse-sized perfume

You’ll be glad you had it when you’re feeling air or road weary and a tad unfresh. I adored the refreshing scent of Aveda’s Pure-fume. Another good one is CLEAN Shower Fresh.

4) Refreshing Wipes

If you have to sleep in an airport, like I did, you’ll be glad to freshen up with these towelettes from L’Occitane.

Stuff I Miss (volume 1)

February 23rd, 2010 by candace

Reading Carolyn’s blog made me think of all the great beauty products I’ve loved and lost over the years. I’ll try to memorialize them for you in this new series.

Stuff I Miss:

Aveda’s Styling Curessence

(R.I.P.)

(R.I.P.)

Oh, the horror I felt when I heard this product had been discontinued. For five straight years I used this spray every time I washed my hair for three reasons:

1) Detangled my long, thick hair like nobody’s business

2) Protected it from heat damage

3) Ahhhh.. that Aveda smell

So they tell me that it’s been replaced by Brilliant Damage Control, which I tried. The verdict?

While it had #2 and #3 above, it failed miserably at #1.

Sorry, Aveda you’ve failed me.

Nic's Stick in I'm Outta Here

Hot Item #2

I’m Outta Here!

Are you ready for spring yet? Is the snow getting to you? Well, melt your icy heart with this week’s Heat it Up feature.

I’m all about convenience and time-savers, so Nic’s Sticks by OPI are right up my alley. I love the fact that you don’t have to balance a full bottle of polish with one hand while trying to paint the other. Plus, it comes in some HOT shades, like I’m Outta Here.

The drying time was closer to 5 minutes than the usual 60-second I shoot for, but the color is rich and the brush works like a charm.

Tell winter, “I’m Outta Here” by adorning your nails with this spicy hue.
