The Glamour of a Signature Scent

Boucheron EDP

Long ago, during a stint in perfume sales, I became a certified perfume expert. (Or is that certifiable?)

And while I’m not sure that I still hold the title of “expert” (surely there are some licensing renewals I’ve since missed), I am an expert in what I like. And when it comes to fragrance, knowing your one signature scent, the one that defines you and reminds others of you, is all the expertise one really needs.

My “signature scent” is Boucheron, an oriental, floral fragrance that calls upon a feminine blend of tangerine, orange, jasmine sandalwood, amber and vanilla. Here’s how you can find your own signature…

Step one: Define your preferences. Fragrances fall into four main categories: Floral, Oriental, Fresh and Woody. Head to your local fragrance counter and discover which type of scent speaks to you.

Step two: Don’t be fooled by the top note! The way that a scent first smells on your skin is called the top note, and it fades fast. Wait about 15 to 30 minutes to evaluate the true personality of the scent on your skin.

Step three: If coupled, make sure he likes it. You find this out not by asking but by waiting for an earnest, unsolicited reaction.  It’s not that everything you do is meant to benefit your significant other, but certainly, you want your scent to appeal to, not repel, the person you love.

I love the idea of wearing one signature scent; it’s a calling card that reminds others of you long after you’ve left the room.

This Freebie Friday, I’m giving away a 3 oz. bottle of my fave fragrance, Boucheron EDP (get it for $136 at Nordstrom).

To win, tell me if you are a fragrance loyalist (like me!) or if you prefer to play the field? As always, tweet @prettycity, comment below or comment on Facebook.com/prettycity.

Happy Freebie Friday, my pretties.

Keep livin’ the pretty life by subscribing to my blog via email or RSS. Plus, be amongst the first to know about weekly features + deals on Mani Monday and giveaways on Freebie Friday.

I play the field on fragrance but I do have my standard go to ones. Different for when I want to be noticed, day, etc.

I play the field mostly. I just haven’t been able to find a scent that I enjoy. I haven’t experimented with perfumes in a long time, but I received a body spray as a present that I enjoyed. Too bad those fragrances don’t last. You have to constantly apply. I’d love to try your favorite scent, it sounds wonderful!

    Thanks for the contest!
I love perfumes and like to collect them (I even save the empty bottles). I like to play the field with fragrance – so that I can try the many, many beautiful ones out there! Though I am usually a loyalist to scents with notes of amber, sandalwood and vanilla. I would love to win this!

I love experimenting with new perfumes! If there’s one I really like I’ll wear it often but I definitely play the field. :)
