DIY Sock Bun

Thursday, November 8th, 2012

Yesterday was spent working on next week’s beauty column for The Tampa Bay Times and PrettyCity.com. I won’t ruin the surprise by spilling all the details, but suffice it to say that five unusual beauty tricks are the focus.

One of my go-to tricks is using a sock to create a super thick hair bun. Have you tried this?

It’s crazy simple. It takes literally seconds. And, it somehow makes your hair look like it was either A) professionally styled or B) painstakingly styled at home with tons of tools, time and products.

Nope, it’s just a simple sock, rolled up into a donut shape and placed atop your head.

So, I’m previewing the how-to from next week’s story for my blog post today. Not to worry, I didn’t ruin the surprise for you, there are four more fascinating tips still to come.

To create a chic, voluminous bun, snip the toe end off a sock that is a similar color to your locks (the thicker the sock, the larger the final bun will be). Next, put hair in a ponytail using a hair tie. Take the sock and roll it up into a donut shape and put the “sock donut” over the end of your hair. Roll the sock down the length of your ponytail towards your head, wrapping your hair around the sock as you get closer to the hair tie.  Once done, tuck extra ends, secure with a bobby pin and you’ve created a thick, gorgeous bun.
