I’ve taken a little time off from blogging to really test and do some research in addition to a hectic work schedule. I’m so glad to be back to share with you all. It’s here, hazy, hot, and humid finally.I love the heat So, for the past 2 weeks I’ve been experimenting with my curls and creating straight styles. Why on earth? Because I had to know which one of these can actually keep my hair tame under pressure. As it is, no product has ever been a match for my hair’s frizzability, but the quest still continues.
I recently attended the product-n-press event at New York City’s La Venue. Patty Hughes resident curvygirlstyle expert walked me through.
“You must see this!” says Patty. Like true curly girls, we beelined over to the hair products (naturally). I was introduced to Nadine Ramos creator of Rio de Keratin riodekeratin.com RdK is a new at-home Brazilian keratin treatment. Nadine assured me that curls would be easier to deal with since about 85 percent of the frizz would be gone. Enough said—sign me up! I have yet to find a product that comes close to taming my hair without chemical damage, but I am willing to explore this.
The Rio de Keratin kit contains a bottle of cocolada shampoo, cocolada conditioner and the Rio de keratin treatment spray.
Two, three, four days go by, and I keep reading the instructions looking for anything remotely resembling a damaging chemical. According to the reps at RdK, it’s a natural product containing coconut oils, vitamin E oil, and Keratin.
My blogger searches for Brazilian hair treatments produced many links and videos. Most comments were positive so I was hopeful.
The Product
Well, finally I washed my hair and let it dry 80% via cool blow dryer, while I air dried the rest. This works for me because my hair gets parched with too much heat and no conditioner. Next, I added the keratin treatment spray section by section, combing it through. Finally, I blew dry my hair with heat and began to flat iron.
Results? First after blowing it out with heat, I have to say my hair was smooth, soft, and so easy to manage. By this I mean a comb could go through my head without a snag. This was a major thumbs up! Next, I began to flat iron with the amazing So-Cap USA Infared flat iron. Using a setting up to 450 degrees seals in the treatment. Infared light from the iron helps repair damaged hair. This iron is the best I’ve ever used by the way, and this treatment puts it all together. Hair was smooth, shiny, and had so much body. It was as if I went to a salon for a wash and blowout.
The instructions say to leave your hair alone for 24 hour processing of the treatment. That means no pins, no ponytails , nada. So the next day I was amazed with how straight my hair was. I couldn’t bear to wash it out–my do was “swangin.” I can honestly say this treatment has made my hair incredibly manageable and super soft. The results last for 30 days at which point you can repeat it.
Rio de Keratin launches August 1st. It will be available for $100 (a mere fraction of a salon visit). Anyone who has frizz issues may be well served by RdK. At a fraction of the cost, why not?
