4 Ways to Gently Cleanse Winter dry hair

Friday, February 4th, 2011

Winter is the worst time of year for skin and hair. I truly believe lotion and conditioner sales go up at this time of year. With the never ending snow storms this is great time to stay in and experiment.

To keep  my hair from breaking in the winter is a challenge But I’ve discovered a few shortcuts that make a huge impact.

SHAMPOO with intent.

My intent was to keep my hair as moist as possible. So I decided try the  creme cleanser route this winter in order to cleanse thoroughly without stripping the hair.

A shampoo like Cutler Specialist Creme w/ Olive oil  ($22 onHSN.com )is so creamy and rich I  wondered  if it really will cleanse. But alas, it’s specially formulated for dry hair and superb for curly girls . There are a few versions of this so pick the one that works for hair needs..   Actually after two washes  my  hair felt very clean and soft. And you can use it as a creme rinse as well. So a dual purpose products should be always be on the winter hair  checklist.

Cutler Specialist Cleansing Conditioner

I’ve rotated between this and Hair Rules Daily Cleansing Creme($20)  over the  winter with stellar results.  I Absolutely love way the Hair Rules  creme lathers with water. As you add more water it gets creamier .It cleans well and seems to stretch curls while cleansing and detangling.

Hair Rules Daily Cleansing Cream

PhytoSpecific Intense Nutrition Shampoo($24)

Phyto introduced this new line of products specifically for ethnic and dry hair .Macadamia and Kuki oils help to cleanse and fortify the hair shaft. I like that  it lathers fast .  One good wash really all you need  with it. For curlies  your hair will  shrink  more than  with  creme shampoo but it does not strip the hair. A conditioner is a must after wards.

On a lower Price point I like the TRESemme Naturals ( $4-6) .Truly a bargain. I ‘ve actually found  a conditioner that is amazing for combouts and as a leave in for Curlies. Using TRESemme Naturals Vibrantly Smooth Conditioner and TRESemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Shampoo

TRESemme Naturals Nurishing Moisture Shampoo

from the TRESemme Naturals collection Vibrantly Smooth Conditioner

on days when I have to rush this is a good combo. The shampoos is gentle enough but I still like add a little coconut oil for my hair. The conditioner can be used as  a leave in because it has wonderful slippage and allows for easy comb through. Whatever your budget is one of these products is sure to help combat winter hair blues.
