With Oscars just around the corner, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about tricks to look fabulous in photos. Here are 3 things that will make the biggest difference when the flash goes off!
Eyes That Pop. The number one trick to looking fabulous when you are photographed is lashes that stand out. The MAC cosmetics counter has a great selection of lashes or you can buy them at your local drugstore. If you are looking for a basic lash, the quality is not that huge of a difference. You can curl them & then prime with a great mascara, then apply either strip lashes or the individual clusters with a lash adhesive. I have used many different mascaras with false lashes and have had the best results with Blinc masacara. Blinc mascara is great because it works well with the lash glue and when you moisten the lashes with water they come out easily without ripping out your natural lashes. As for the lash glue, I prefer the black adhesive rather than the clear, as it blends right in with the lash line. Here’s how to apply:
- If you are applying strip lashes, hold them up to each eye to see if they. If they are too long you can trim them down slightly, just be sure to trim from the end with the longest lashes as you want the inner corners closest to your nose to have a gradual incline in length for the most natural look.
- Apply the glue to the inner rim of the lash and a teeny dot on each end to keep the ends from popping up. Let dry until tacky and apply. It helps to bend the lash in a U shape so that is fits right into the curve of your natural lash line. I use the individual clusters and, rather than applying them into the top of my lashes, I glue them underneath. This takes a little practice, but no one will be able to tell that you have falsies on.
- Use tweezers to hold each cluster while carefully applying a drop of glue to the tip. Then apply the cluster at the base of the lash (be careful not to poke your eye out) and gently adjust the direction of the lashes to match your natural ones. I buy different lengths and apply the clusters, alternating shorter and longer lengths, to eliminate the too-perfect look that gives them away.
Get Bronzed. The bright lights tend to wash out the complexion. A tan is the perfect solution. There are many options to get that tanned look. Airbrush tanning and bronzer, in my opinion, are the safest and most fool-proof options. Many tanning salons & spas offer airbrushing services. There are also technicians that will come to your home. If you choose to have an airbrush tan, do it at least 2-3 days before the event. That way there is time to correct any mistakes, if necessary. You don’t want to end up showing up to your event looking orange like an oompa loompa! How to get the most from your Tan:
- Wax, shave, & exfoliate before your appointment so your tan is even and long lasting.Clean off your make up and make sure you skin is not too oily. A little bit of witch hazel or toner on a cotton round will absorb excess oil on the face to make sure the tan sticks.
- Be sure the technician puts lotions in the areas you do not want tan, such as the palms of your hands. Protect your manicure and pedicure with a coat of lotion dabbled on each nail bed to make sure the solution does not stain your cuticles or nails.
The Perfect Pout. Just as the bright lights wash out your color they also wash out your lips. In order to ensure your smile looks fabulous start with a lip liner, lipstick, and matching or clear gloss. Gently apply the lip liner around the natural line of your lips using short feathery strokes to ensure even wear throughout your evening. Then apply your lipstick & top with an application of gloss. For gloss, I am a huge fan of Lip Fusion. This gloss is full of lip plumping ingredients to give you a full, sexy pout. Take a quick check in the mirror for lipstick on the teeth and your ready to go.
