Hair envy

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Every now and again I need a little hair inspiration. Something to pull me out of my bang-cutting, ponytail wearin’ routine. I pulled these four images from Pinterest and saved them on my desktop as a reminder that just because I am a workin’ mom doesn’t mean I have to lather, rinse, repeat the same look every day. Here’s what I love about each one:

You can enter the girl in the rat race but you can’t pull the hippie out of her. That’s me. I can’t let go of my boho roots and I’ve decided it’s perfectly acceptable to rock this look with a pencil skirt by day and a maxi skirt by night. Pumps to gladiators, I say!

A beautiful mess. I love that it’s actually cool and now acceptable to rat your hair and then somehow pull it back into a disheveled ponytail. People call this Parisian chic. I call it GENIUS. Just have plenty of conditioner on standby.

Oh Lauren Conrad – you did America good when you showed us the powers of a braided ponytail! And what’s even more beautiful is that no one can detect my hair is day-old-dirty with the help of one of my super hero friend – dry shampoo. **Note** this is a great do for hair that is sorely in need of a color job, too!

I saved the best for last. I’ve always admired women who sport the bed head look with ease. The “I meant for my hair to look this sexy and unkempt” appearance. For those of us who have straight hair (read: me) I think it’s just a matter of getting out of bed and literally refraining from a comb or brush. Just toss a little dry shampoo in and resist the temptation to pull it back all day. Let Mother Nature shape it how she wants. Just make sure you’re wearing a fab set of heels. Easy enough, right?

Yes, I said it’s time to “Love You”!

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

February means candy hearts and red roses for a lot of people. Not for this girl. In honor of National Heart Awareness Month, I honor a different tradition. I take time out to “love me”. Yes, you read that right. I treat myself to $39 spa, salon and med spa deals in honor of the cause and Valentine’s Day. The most important relationship you have is with yourself…no, seriously! Why not take time to appreciate you being you. Once your pampered and puckered, then and only then can you be happy with the company of someone else; be it your girlfriends or a loved one. So hey…LOVE YOU first and the rest will happen as it should.

PS – book now because the campaign starts 2/1/11!

Beauty buy or bust?

St. Ives Gentle Apricot Scrub

You ladies remember this old girl, dontcha? Gosh, this brings me back to 6th grade when puberty was just rearing its ugly head. Fast forward to more mature days and I couldn’t walk away from St. Ives “Gentle” Apricot Scrub on Saturday. Part of it was that fresh, clean apricot smell; part of it was the adjective “gentle” which meant daily use for me and the other part of it was the new packaging, admittedly. I racked my brain and I couldn’t think of a single bad experience I had in my former years which led me to give her another try. Plus, you may remember that this winter marks the driest my skin has ever been. Like in history. So, as part of my resolution to perform weekly masks and exfoliation services to my numero uno organ – my skin – I decided this was going to be a must in my daily routine. And guess what…I am so glad I did. Some things never change.

Beauty buy or bust?: BUY! For the right price and the comfort of using this scrub daily – those two reasons alone should make this a staple in your medicine cabinet. It’s packed with antioxidants and apricot oil is known to hydrate and nourish your skin. Says the people who invented it. Try it!

A trip to Whole Foods…

Monday, November 29th, 2010

Going to Whole Foods is not a regular occurrence for me. The main reason is that it’s easy to achieve a bill well over $100 in just a mere 15 minutes…and I haven’t even gotten to the groceries. Nope. I am talking about their beauty and wellness aisle. I could get lost for days. There are so many sophisticated and natural brands on the market now that it’s almost a sin not to have a sulfate and paraben free product in your medicine cabinet. Here are a few easy buys that I am over the moon about…

Desert Essence Organic Lemon Tea Tree Shampoo

At first sniff, I was hooked. Not only does this shampoo smell amazing but it’s great for fine hair that is on the oilier side. Read: must shower every day. And it works up some great suds!

Alba Sea Moss Moisturizer with SPF 15

Another goodie! It’s light but gives you enough SPF coverage for daily use without an overbearing smell. With Vitamin C, aloe vera and green tea…this power packed product helps restore collagen and helps your skin appear brighter and more vibrant. And after all, it is winter.

Omega 3/DHA Fish Oil

It’s the least glamorous of the bunch but it will make a huge impact on the appearance of your skin. I promise! Not only does this wonder supplement help with better brain function – it also helps make your hair shinier and your nails stronger and just about cures any skin ailment you may encounter during the cold weather season. There are so many brands on the market so you really can’t go wrong. And although it is a pricey supplement, one bottle will generally last you a month and I guarantee you will see results.

There you have it…until next paycheck… xo

Pretty in Pink

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Every year I look forward to October for one reason. {well, two if you include Halloween} The primary reason is because every year the company I work for, Pretty City, gives back to the community all in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The campaign is called “Pretty in Pink” and for the 31 days of October, our clients consisting of spas, salons, med spas and wellness centers offer treatments for $31 in honor of the cause. Think facials, massages, manis, pedis…the list goes on. And, for every business that participates, Pretty City donates $200 on their behalf to Bright Pink. Bright Pink is an organization that helps raise awareness and education for not only breast cancer but ovarian cancer and those afflicted with the disease as well. It’s an amazing charity that I always feel so proud to be connected to. So…spread the word and get pampered in the name of a great cause – you never know who you are going to help! Register and find pampering destinations in your city!

Kombucha wha?

Entrepreneur G.T. Dave

Ever seen that funky looking cocktail at Whole Foods and wonder what kombucha is? Make that Organic Raw Kombucha?! G.T. Dave is the brain behind the business and he sunk everything he had into it. Thanks to a psychic!

One thing I know…it definitely looks raw and it definitely looks organic. Turns out this little wonder drink can do everything from giving you an energy boost to building up your immune system. I found this great article in W Magazine and thought I would share. It’s always so great to see an entrepreneur who is passionate about his business and has a great story to go along with it. Check it out.

P.S. This one’s for you, Sarah. I still don’t know what flavor I can get down but I am trying…”trying” is the operative word.
