Yesterday I experienced my first prenatal massage. If I was held at gun point and had to describe it in one word, it would be: heavenly. I’m pretty sure that upon check out I made zero sense standing there in a haze. It was that good!  Massage in and of itself is truly an art form and when you have a big, ol’ pregnant body…it’s a skill. If money were no object, I would be back weekly to visit my new bestie, Clara. But since it is, I wanted to spread the word that not only is massage the most rewarding and relaxing gift you could give a male OR female but it’s also a huge brownie point for the big and uncomfortable…like moi.

Prenatal massage is different because there only so many positions one can achieve. Sitting and laying on both sides. And if you’re curious about the benefits, this is not scientific but they include: improved circulation, swelling comfort, lower back sciatic nerve relief, reflexology for the aching feet and the approval of public drooling. I experienced all of these…thank you very much.

And for my local plug…if you’re stumped for Mom’s Day, dial this place up! You’ll be in good hands. Pun intended.

Do you want to see what’s in our closet?

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

When this program was first conceptualized by our team, it was hard to not let out a squeal of excitement. I mean…where can you shop exclusive, hard-to-find, luxury brands and get 50% off every product  just for being a loyal reader? Oh and by the way…it’s 50% off BEAUTY PRODUCTS! This is like the ultimate Christmas list year-round and I am happy to share with you that it launches 3/21/11! Credit cards ready? Did you memorize that security code on the back? Make sure to quiz yourself because these products won’t last forever. In fact, we’re only selling 50 total on a weekly basis. Eeps!

The real question is…what brands or products do you want to see in our closet?

A marvelous event.

Dessert Bar filled with eye candy!

A cake plate filled with lipsticks!

If there’s one thing the Pretty City peeps love – it’s candy and makeup! Last week’s Jafra Cosmetic Launch was a hit and here are two pictures capturing our fabulous dessert bar. Delectable treats in the form of pink and purple sixlets, taffy, jelly beans and fruit slices co-mingled with the hottest lipstick shades, eye shadows, liners and lacquers. It was positively dreamy and our guests seemed to think so, too. Each woman walked out with a custom color makeover courtesy the talented Jafra make up artists. Bronzed skin, magenta lips and warm apricot cheeks networked and sipped pink and purple Jafra-tinis. A good time was had by all!

We know how to throw a party…

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

In case you haven’t heard, Pretty City knows how to throw a party. Little gratuitous plug here. And this week’s party is one NOT to miss! We still have some room on the list and the event takes place this Thursday at the infamous Marquee Lounge. Will I see you there? RSVP here.

A bird of a different feather.

One of the great things about my job, besides working in top markets, is the exposure I get to new beauty trends. Whether it’s the new $300 face cream or a $2000 hair cut – I’ve seen it all. And arguably, before the masses which makes me kinda hip, if I do say so myself.

Last year, we were introduced to hair tinsel.  And while it’s not for me, I have a great friend who rocks them and looks fabulous in them. That’s why beauty is so fun, it’s as diverse as its audience! This year, I discovered a new hair trend and while I might be more “polish” than “edge”; I am looking forward to seeing more of it. Drum roll…feather extensions! I think they appeal to my former hippie days and they blend in so well with your natural hair. You can style them and treat them as your own and they come in some amazing colors.

As a matter of fact, I just found a destination locally that offers them – Hair Base Salon! Having just come back from a convention and earning their accreditation, this is a salon always on the cutting edge. And good news divas, they are doing a special this month with Pretty City. You can get 5 feather extensions for $39!

Me – I think I would go for the more natural colors because they do come in blonde or light brown shades and I love the way they look with your hair pulled back in a messy half-do. Check it out and be the first of your friends to spread their wings and test out this new trend.

Yes, I said it’s time to “Love You”!

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

February means candy hearts and red roses for a lot of people. Not for this girl. In honor of National Heart Awareness Month, I honor a different tradition. I take time out to “love me”. Yes, you read that right. I treat myself to $39 spa, salon and med spa deals in honor of the cause and Valentine’s Day. The most important relationship you have is with yourself…no, seriously! Why not take time to appreciate you being you. Once your pampered and puckered, then and only then can you be happy with the company of someone else; be it your girlfriends or a loved one. So hey…LOVE YOU first and the rest will happen as it should.

PS – book now because the campaign starts 2/1/11!

The most memorable Holiday Party…

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Tiffany opted for big, voluminous curls!

Susan opted for glamorous eyelashes!

Donna opted for the smokey eye look!

Just wanted to share a brief photo montage of an amazing company party we had last week. Each Pretty City member got to choose from a bevy of makeover services at Tease Salon in Pilsen, Chicago.  Tease Salon enhanced each gal’s natural beauty…so much so that we turned into this dynamic duo of eyelash battin’ vixens. How fun! I am not pictured however I let my stylist have her way and she chose a burlesque, soft curl kinda look. {Think Britney’s hair on the cover of her “Circus” album} Admittedly it took some getting used to but I liked it even better the next day courtesy a little dry shampoo. I think this went down as my favorite party to date. Happy Holidays!
