Wednesday, May 26th, 2010Summer Hair
Tuesday, May 25th, 2010Pretty summer hair is easy to achieve with the proper hairstyling tools, products and accessories. This summer, the way to go is with effortlessly pretty hair.
Braids are easy to create with Samy Under Control Molding Wax. Take your pick of a basic braid, a side braid or a French braid and create it slightly askew. This product is flake free and holds your style all day long.
You can’t go wrong this summer with natural waves. They are beach chic and require a minimal effort using Samy Big Curls Defining Crème for a natural texture. You can enhance those waves with the new White Sands Curling Iron. It uses Marcel’s wave technique and has a Spring Load option.
Curly unmanageable hair can be transformed with a BRAZILIAN SILK by DĀR-X professional keratin treatment. It leaves hair frizz-free, healthy & shiny. This salon only treatment accompanied with BRAZILIAN SILK by DĀR-X at-home care products will last for months.
Ballerina Buns are all the rage for summer. Secure hair into a tight clean bun. Use Samy The Hairspray to tame the flyaways around the hairline and keep the style in place.
Add some highlights or enhance them with Champagne Gold Bling Strands tie in hair accessories. You can simply tie them in yourself and they stay in for days.
For a Hippie or Bohemian look wear a True Birds Bohemian Band right across the hairline or at the crown of the head.
Hip headscarves are available in myriad of colors and patterns, work well with short or long hair and are great for bad hair days. Wrap one from Juicy Couture around a ponytail or wear it as a headband secured with some bobby pins.
Actress Peggy McCay’s Timeless Beauty Secrets Revealed!
Sunday, May 23rd, 2010Emmy Award-winning actress Peggy McCay plays the unstoppable matriarch Caroline Brady on NBC’s Days of our Lives but she has enjoyed a lauded career on primetime (most recently a guest starring role on CBS’ Cold Case) as well as in feature films. McCay is the only performer in history to be nominated for both a primetime and daytime Emmy Award in the same year (she won the primetime trophy). Through it all, she has maintained a reputation for enduring talent, utmost professionalism, and timeless beauty.
What keeps this golden girl so golden? Among other revelations, McCay tells us what beauty products keep her looking so amazing and what animals can teach us about staying well balanced and healthy.
What is your definition of beauty?
McCay:
I think beauty is God-given. That being said, it’s up to each of us to maintain and highlight it. The key is to have an accurate perspective on oneself and choose the right hairstyle and clothing that suits one’s particular figure and unique beauty.
Do you believe women can be beautiful at any age?
McCay:
Yes, I do. I think one of the most beautiful women was [artist] Georgia O’Keefe. She was stunningly beautiful in her own way. I think women can be beautiful at any age if they care for themselves. Mature women possess an inner beauty learned through life.
Can you share some of your beauty secrets?
McCay:
Vitamins are important and eating the right food, but exercise is the best way to change your attitude and your body. You can even exercise your eyes. I don’t wear glasses. I think exercise is the greatest tool for looking and feeling one’s best.
Can you recommend any special beauty products you swear by?
McCay:
I use various products but favor Neutrogena because it is hypoallergenic. I also love Paul Mitchell products. They are not only pure, but as their slogan says, Paul Mitchell products are tested by hairdressers, never on animals.
It is no secret you love animals and love helping them. How do you think this has helped you maintain balance in your own life?
McCay:
They are so essential to me. I have people who gave up having animals and they are miserable. I think I figured out why I think they are so essential to staying balanced. Animals are totally in tune with nature and we [humans] are the inventive ones. Animals have such purity, and innocence and love. They are wonderful. Most animals will become your friend, if they get to know you. And they bring that purity to a human being, which can lead to a healthier life. For example, studies have shown that stroking a dog will reduce high blood pressure.
You are in a profession that usually demands beauty of its leading women – were you always considered a great beauty or is this something you cultivated for your career?
McCay:
(Laughs) Thank you. I’ve never thought of myself that way, but I think I’ve cultivated whatever I’ve achieved in that area. In New York where I started my career, physical beauty was not the main thing in actors – it was your performance. When I first got to Hollywood, my agents told me I would never do a movie unless I had a bathing suit picture – meaning how I looked in a bathing suit counted more than my training. I couldn’t believe it.
Knowing what you know now about health and wellness, would you have done things differently in your twenties? Why or why not?
McCay:
I wouldn’t have sat in the sun so long!
What do you consider beautiful in other people?
I consider their expressiveness, sensibilities and heart most beautiful.

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010Brazilian Silk keratin hair treatment
Tuesday, May 18th, 2010“I love this product and highly recommend it to anyone interested in having the best,” says Cathy Morris, famed electric violinist about BRAZILIAN SILK by DAR-X keratin treatment. Author, Virginia DeBerry says, “I am totally blown away by the results!”
The company, BRAZILIAN SILK, was founded by celebrity hair stylist Derek Collins and co-owner Greg Cummins. They partnered to create a fabulous product that makes even the roughest hair silky, shiny and manageable and so healthy looking. Derek tried several similar products and with Cummins, they took the best attributes of those products minus their deficiencies and created BRAZILIAN SILK.
Derek & Greg work with a company in Brazil that uses the powerful principals of Brazil’s homeland fruit, the Açaí Berry. Unlike other products on the market, BRAZILIAN SILK does not have an offensive odor. It leaves no line of demarcation. It has accumulative results. You do not have to wait three to four days before washing or styling your hair and you do not have to revisit the salon to complete the process. BRAZILIAN SILK is 100% aldehyde free.
The Brazilian Silk treatment is a professional service only. It can only be done in a salon. There is a home care maintenance kit that you can purchase at the salon and take home to truly optimize the results. It can be used on top of relaxers and strengtheners and you can even have your hair colored prior to the treatment.
Derek recently visited Hot Heads, The Art of Hair Styling salon in Crystal River, Florida and worked his magic on hair stylist Debbie Burgess.” I can not even explain how awesome this is. My friends can tell you I am straight-forward enough to only tell the truth! This is totally awesome. I need no flat ironing at all!” exclaims Debbie.
I can speak from experience myself. I have had two treatments. The second treatment was 4 months after the first. I, like Debbie, had an extra special treat with Derek working my locks (see photo above). I love my hair now more than ever.
Check out the Q&A at braziliansilk.com and call Greg at 317-602-5335 to find the Brazilian Silk treatment service at a salon near you
