Top stylist Didier Malige, Aveda & Whirl-a-Style

Friday, September 30th, 2011

This wet look chignon designed by Didier Malige, stylist for Aveda is a fabulous style. It’s a natural understated look.

Straight from Didier here is how to create it:

1. Brush hair away from the face with fingers, while working Aveda Pure Abundance Potion throughout to texturize.

2. Pull hair back with hands, gathering at the back of the head as if to pull into a ponytail.

3. Twist hair and coil into a loose bun, fasten with bobby pins.

4. Pat a generous amount of Aveda Men Pure-Formance Grooming Clay and Aveda Control Paste onto the head, massaging and scrunching to create a matte, wet-and-dried texture.

5. Smooth sides very close to head and leave a little volume on top.

Thanks Didier!

For twisting and coiling the hair into a loose bun, try Whirl-a-Style. The Whirl-a-Style hair tool has a special slit through the center of the product where the hair is pulled, then rolled and styled. You’ll make a statement with Didier’s design & Aveda Products. You’ll make it easy with Whirl-a-style!

Thymes Bergamont Vert

Monday, September 19th, 2011

I received a compliment yesterday that my house always smells so good. It does and usually from baking brownies and chocolate chip cookies! If I am not baking, I am always sure to light a yummy scented soy candle or use a home fragrance mist. Recently I tried Thymes Bergamont Vert fragrance spray. It’s subtle yet very welcoming. It’s eco-friendly made with low VOC’s, which I will do some research on next. I am always happy to learn more about eco-friendly ideas and products. When the Bergamot Vert is empty, I am trying the Agave Nectar scent and I think I’ll order some of Tymes’ bath products too.

I love, love, love Halloween! Last year our Halloween display was featured in The Wall Street Journal newspaper! It’s Halloween everywhere at my house in October so I have to get a few items from Bath & Body Works Halloween Spook-tacular Boo-tique like their Anti-Bacterial Gentle Foaming Hand Soap in Sour Drop, Marshmallow, Green Apple Candy, Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin & more. I’ll take four. One for the kitchen, one in each bathroom & one in my sister Lynn’s Halloween goodie bag.

Pumpkin Beauty with Erika Katz

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Beauty writer and former child model and actress, Erika Katz has been a beauty junkie nearly all her life. Using her experience from her days working in the beauty department at Seventeen magazine, cosmetology classes and lessons learned through her extensive work in television and modeling, Erika created a beauty guide that served as the foundation for her book Bonding Over Beauty, A Mother-Daughter Guide to Self-Esteem, Confidence and Trust. From product and styling tips, such as how to create the perfect ponytail, to at home recipes for creating an organic facial scrub, Erika explores it all in her book, in which she includes her own experience as well as information from interviews with top beauty experts. Erika has appeared as an expert on shows such as The Today Show, The Doctors and Fox News. Below she shares two “Do it yourself” recipes using pumpkin, a fall favorite ingredient.

Pumpkin is rich in vitamin A, which is very healing to the skin and is essential to maintain and repair skin tissue. It also helps reduce lines and wrinkles. Honey is a humectant. The cream moisturizes and helps flaky skin

Pumpkin face mask
2 tsp canned pumpkin pureed
1/2 tsp honey
1/4 tsp heavy whipping cream
Mix all ingredients and apply to face. Leave on for 10 min and rinse. .

Pumpkin scrub
1/2 cup pureed pumpkin
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp honey

If a “DIY” Pumpkin Scrub is not an option try Clientele’s Thermal Pumpkin Scrub or consider shopping for pumpkin beauty products at Bath & Body Works.

Seasonal Shaving? No way!

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Seasonal shaving? No way! Your legs may be covered in the winter months but shaving is a must in my book…always…armpits too. I like Skintimate Signature Scents Shave Gel in Raspberry Rain. It’s fresh fruity scent makes you forget it’s winter. It’s got Vitamin and Olive Butter for extra moisturizing benefits. There are 11 moisturizers total in the formula! The light pink gel foams into a white rich lather. I have tried the Fruity Mango and that’s fab too. (a tidbit) Did you know that in 1915, Harper’s Bazaar showcased an ad of a woman in sleeveless attire with arms raised revealing smooth, hair-free underarms. The first part of the ad read `Summer Dress and Modern Dancing combine to make necessary the removal of objectionable hair.’

My Belldini world!

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

I discovered Belldini designs about 5 years ago and have been hooked ever since. This past weekend my niece and I were looking at family pics and there I was in a Belldini mock neck rhinestone cardigan, a ribbed nail head tank, a rhinestone hoodie, a ruffle tank and looking fab! in my favorite, a Belldini leopard print embellished keyhole sweater, which I wore to a Red Carpet event. Next week I am heading to Los Angeles and the first thing I packed for the trip was my Belldini vest with metal beading and stud trim. It’s perfect for an Emmy event I will be attending. I’ll be wearing it with leggings, a plain black top and gorgeous Michael Kors stiletto platform slouch boots.
