Get great brows now!

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Well-groomed eyebrows are essential for looking great. Chella Professional Skincare has partnered with celebrity makeup artist DeeDee Marcelli to launch the brand new Brow Full-Fillment collection complete with a brow growth serum, essential tool kit and an amazing brow color kit in four shades so you can create your perfect brows at home.

DeeDee shares these tips on how to get camera-ready brows every time!

1. SHAPE: Use our Chella stencils or the “pencil method” to figure out where your eye brow should start, arch, and end. Holding the pencil, align flush against the side of your nose and this is where your brow should begin. Tilt the pencil midpoint and look for the highest part of your brow above the iris and this is where it should arch. Pencil in hand, tilt the pencil from the bottom of your nose to the outside edge and this is the ending point..

2. DRAWING: Use the Chella brow pencils to fill in desired look. Our pencils have a fine creamy tip that make drawing in the hairs look extremely natural. Apply using short strokes to draw thin hairs into place and smudge with our Chella brush.

3. COLOR: To make your brows look natural, it’s important to pick the right shade. Try to match the color of your hair! If you have many colors running through your hair (with various highlights) don’t be afraid to use two or three pencils! This will give you the most natural results. If you have gray hair, I suggest using our blonde pencil. For black hair, our dark brown is the perfect choice. I feel a black pencil is just too harsh and I like the youthfulness of a deep rich brown/black.

4. GROOMING: Now that you have selected your shape of brow and filled it in with the pencil, it’s time to get rid of any excess hair that would ruin the picture. Hairs that are overgrown should be gently clipped with scissors. If there is a lot of plucking to be done, I suggest our tweezers. For sculpting the brow (and also for any hairs that are too short to grip), the Chella razor is my favorite tool. It’s quick and has great precision. Don’t think twice about removing the hairs above the brow line! Also, our razor works wonders above the mouth or any place on the face where facial hairs are a problem.

5. FINE TUNING: The finishing touches should be highlighting your brow bone to show off and draw attention to your new brows. Chella Lace Highlighter is the perfect shade! A beautiful, blushy beige, our creamy pencil is soft, pretty and natural. Next, to set the shape of your brows, a quick brush though with the Chella Brow Gel and your brows are now camera ready! www.chella.com

Skin Care by Molly M

From Summer to Fall. Does my skin even know the difference?

You bet your brown spots your skin knows! Seasonal transition is definitely something our skin will have an effect from. Due to the weather, free radicals, UVA, UVB, air pollution…etc., our skin can become extremely dull and dehydrated and start showing more signs of the damage that was caused during our summer days in the sun. Cooler, dryer weather is undoubtedly the time to start preventing any further damage to your skin, and start repairing what damage has already been caused. Even if you protected your skin throughout summer with sunscreens and hats, damage still occurs. This is the perfect time to revitalize and rejuvenate your skin.

The holidays are just around the corner, now is the time to start amping up your skin care regimen and feeling great about your skin! Don’t wait until the last minute! Give yourself plenty of time so your skin can adjust and have optimal results by the time your holiday parties come around. There are so many fun and exciting treatments out right now for all skin types! You can’t turn back time, but you can definitely get on the road to healthy skin!

I’ve always said, “The most important thing you will wear all year is your skin, make it Healthy Skin!”
Scheduling an appointment with your licensed Esthetician is a great way to start the seasons right. By doing this your skincare specialist can help you determine your skin type and recommend products that best suit your skin needs. Ingredients are key, and your esthetician is trained to help you maintain beautiful, healthy skin not only in the treatment room, but at home too!

From Summer to Acne. Why don’t I breakout this much in Summer!?

Summer is pretty much over. The transition of the seasons has begun causing a noticeable effect on your complexion. The chaotic pressures of school starting again, having to get back to fighting traffic, dry cold weather, all these things cause stress, and when the stress is high, the skin reacts. It’s easy to overlook the fact that along with the crazy traffic and stressful work and school schedules your skin will suffer causing you even more stress resulting in acne breakouts.

In some instances the UV rays from the sun can actually help to control breakouts. It can be a little pimple or it can be several big ones! Most people just can’t resist taking matters into their own finger tips. You’re only human. We look for the quick fix, not thinking of what the consequences can be! I’ve had patients that pick, use needles, use safety pins, or whatever other sharp objects they can find, and about 95 percent of the time when they come to me, there is still bacteria stuck under the skin! We just cannot extract ourselves properly it doesn’t work! Picking causes trauma to the skin, from redness and dark spots to inflammation and scarring. It can even cause the acne to spread. Don’t self treat! Self treating with some home remedies can be risky and damage your skin. Like toothpaste! Big NO NO, unless you want a nice red or dark mark left on your face. Toothpaste can burn the skin. Don’t do it! There are hundreds of home remedies you can try, but be sure to use caution and research any reactions or side effects that can occur. Don’t be afraid to call your skincare specialist, dermatologist or esthetician for any remedies you can try at home. (You may not get an answer over the phone if you’re not already established with her/him)

The solution? Think about it.

The amount you spend on creams, cleansers and soaps looking for something that works for you can add up quickly! You try one cleanser after another, one moisturizer after another, Sun Screens, mask’s, pads, spot treatments, remedies, everything adds up! Has is treated the problem? Maybe? Has it made it worse? It’s possible.

You can see a licensed professional, trained to extract properly and that can recommend the products that can work for your skin type. By seeing your licensed Esthetician/Skincare Specialist and Dermatologist, and getting the proper topical treatments as well as facial treatments you can help fight acne breakouts. Acne treatments will focus on controlling inflammation and preventing or addressing issues of hyperpigmentation and scarring , treatments that get you back to healthier, clearer , more stress free skin. No matter what your age, gender, or skin type, professional acne treatments can work for you and improve your over all skin health. This goes for all parts of the body. Acne isn’t just on your face. It can occur on the back, chest, arms and other unmentionable places.

Don’t be afraid to interview your esthetician first. Best to get a referral to someone trusted by a friend or Doctor. Not just any esthetician is qualified at doing proper extractions!

A style Q&A with Award-winning filmmaker Shirley Petchprapa

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Q. What is your favorite wardrobe item and why?
A. I made this shawl out of several cut up sweaters that I wanted to mimic animal furs/skins. It’s probably the last thing I made years ago. I don’t get to wear it often because it takes a very particular type of temperature to be able to rock it; just cold enough to wear something that looks heavy but warm enough because the arms are partially exposed.

Q. What is your favorite beauty product and why?
A. I’ll always say moisturizer because soft skin is nice.

Q. Does your personal style influence your filmmaking?
A. My philosophy on style reflects my filmmaking in that it just has to feel right, that its not overproduced and you can always see what’s underneath for what it’s worth.

About Shirley Petchprapa:
A native New Yorker, Thai American director SHIRLEY PETCHPRAPA directed the intoxicating Short Film ROXY, which is heating up film festival screens across the globe. ROXY is an official selection for this year’s prestigious Locarno International Film Festival (Switzerland), Marbella International Film Festival (Spain), Santa Monica International Film Festival, The Mill Valley Film Festival, and the Lucca Film Festival (Italy). Ian Scott of the One Line Review says of ROXY, “There are echoes of J.D. Salinger’s A Perfect Day for Bananafish (1948) in Shirley Petchprapa’s intensely sensual and ethereally beautiful self-financed short film, which wallows in the poetry of the every day, finding the beauty in acts as simple as a man watching television, running a bath, and even just cleaning his teeth, whilst his dog, Roxy – the film’s real star – lolls around with effortless elegance.” ROXY follows on the critical success of Petchprapa’s 2009 short film TUESDAY, which she wrote, directed, and sound designed. TUESDAYwon the “Best SoundScape Award from the European Centre for the Arts Hellerau” at the FilmFest Dresden (Germany).

National Hair Loss Awareness Month

Friday, August 6th, 2010

August is National Hair Loss Awareness Month. This brings attention to the matter and heightens awareness that hair loss is a serious concern to millions of individuals afflicted with the condition. Leonard Stillman, Director of Professional Services at Lexington International, LLC, home of the Hairmax LaserCombR Premium, put together some tips for taking charge of your hair loss and treating the condition early on. There are options for hair loss other than a baseball cap…thank you Mr. Stillman!

TIPS FOR TREATING HAIR LOSS
By Leonard Stillman, Director of Professional Services
www.hairmax.com

1. Treat hereditary hair loss at its earliest stages:

Genetic or hereditary hair loss usually begins in the early 20′s for men and usually starts to show as a receding hair line at the front and thinning at the top of the head. From this point on hair loss tends to progress and not get better as shown in the Norwood Hamilton Classification of Hair Loss. By waiting and waiting to take action and not treating hair loss in the early stages, more and more hair follicles die off and once that occurs, no treatment will enable hair regrowth. Once the hair follicle is dead, it will never produce hair again … so don’t wait until it’s too late!

2. Make an informed decision as to when to treat hair loss:

Only when you are fully equipped with a good understanding of your condition and the treatment options available, will you be able to take charge, make informed decisions, and make a difference in your hair to positively impact how you feel about yourself. The internet is an excellent resource, but it is full of both good and sometimes misleading information. A few of the best resources are listed below. They are an excellent resource to get the best advice. They can help you make a sound decision as to when to see treatment for your hair loss.

American Academy of Dermatology

Bernstein Medical Center for Hair Restoration

Stanford Hospital and Clinics – Stanford Health Library

3. Realize that there are effective treatments available that can stop and in many cases help your hair to regrow:

Presently, there are 3 products that have FDA approval/clearance for hair growth and have been proven effective. Minoxidil is an over the counter ingredient widely available in many preparations, the prescription drug containing finesteride, and the HairMax LaserCombR, (pictured) a home use laser phototherapy medical device that has been proven to re-grow hair and prevent further hair loss. Also, there are many other products that are useful when used in conjunction with these products to help potentiate their effect. So you no longer have to have the attitude of, “nothing
works, so why bother”.

4. Visit your health care practitioner:

If you want some expert advice, then you should make an appointment with a health care practitioner for expert advice. Probably the best physician to see is a dermatologist who is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of hair loss. If you need to locate a dermatologist in your area, access www.aad.org and they have a physician locator.

Remember, hair loss IS treatable! The best chance you have to help control your hair loss is to do something about it when you first notice hair loss is occurring.

Tina O’s Tips to Jazz Up Jeans

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

1. A fun way to dress up any jeans and denim shirt is to put on a big pair of sunglasses and wear a long chiffon scarf around your head and around your neck where you tie it off. If you happen to have a convertible, you can let the scarf blow in the wind behind you! People will mistake you for an old screen siren!

2. A pair of jeans can really be jazzed up with a cute pair of strappy heels and a chiffon scarf used as a belt! Most men love a woman in strappy heels because a naked foot can be so sexy!

3. Have trouble walking in heels? Throw on your favorite flats with your favorite pair of jeans and put your hair up on top of your head into a ponytail. Grab some big hoop earrings and take that long chiffon or silk scarf and tie it around your neck and mid section so it becomes a cute halter-top!

4. Jean shorts are adorable but some gals don’t really have the tiny bottom to pull them off. Try wrapping a chiffon or silk scarf around your bottom with the tie in the front. It adds color and hides your bottom. Then just throw on a fun t-shirt!

5. I mention chiffon and silk scarves a lot because they are perfect for a lot of purposes. Try tying one to your purse before dashing out of the door. It dresses up your purse and then you are ready to put it on your head in case you find yourself in a convertible or in the wind. Also, it can work in a pinch as a nice bathing suit wrap!

6. If you have to paint a room in your house, take an old pair of jeans and wear them while painting. Don’t be afraid of getting paint splatters on them- that is the whole point. The more paint you get on them, the better! They will look like a work of art and friends will think you bought them that way. In fact, invite your gal pals over and everyone can paint in their jeans while creating fun new colorful jeans!

7. Take those skinny jeans and roll them up to Capri length. Add in an adorable t-shirt and a scarf around the neck or again as a belt and you will have a cute, classic look!

8. Cowboy boots with a comfortable pair of jeans are always great especially when paired with a fitted vest. Wearing it with a sleeveless t-shirt will help to keep a perfect silhouette from top to bottom. You got it now, Urban Cowgirl!

It’s Murad!

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

“I can’t think of a more rewarding life than being able to help people look younger, feel healthier and live happier,” says Dr. Howard Murad. And, he certainly does. We are huge Murad fans here at IAGT. Right now, I am especially loving the Murad HYBRIDS Skin Perfecting Primer. I am wearing it today with just mascara and lip stick. My pores look smaller. My skin has a nice matte finish and the universal shade matches my skin tone perfectly. Best of all, I know it’s right for me. It’s Murad!
