Proper way to comb wet hair (straight or curly) ( I will bring my mannequin head I used in beauty school to demonstrate)- After shampooing and conditioning you want to make sure the hair is damp. Next take a wide toothed comb and section your hair horizontally starting from the bottom up. This will keep your hair from being pulled out and will make it a lot less painful.

Instead of microfiber towels use this- Now we have plenty of these around the house am I right? I am talking about t-shirts. Did you know that using microfiber towels can actually cause hair breakage and hair loss. SO next time you get out of the shower have a cotton fiber t-shirt sitting next to you and use that to wrap your hair.

Best way to shampoo and condition hair (especially if it is color treated)- When shampooing your hair don’t use more than a nickel size amount and only focus on your scalp. Do not ball your hair at the top of your head. Use your fingertips to massage your scalp and work into a lather. rinse hair and let shampoo run down the ends of your hair. Make sure you use a shampoo with low pH balance such as the ones found in your salon. Next to condition only use a nickel size and this time focus on the ends of your hair. RInse with cool water to help lock in moisture and also to help lock in color. If your hair is color treated especially redheads wash hair 2-3 times a week.

At home remedy for red heads- Aside from using shampoo and conditioner that is made specifically for color treated hair, a great at home remedy to help maintain redheads is rinsing your hair with cranberry juice. YES cranberry juice. We have all heard from our parents be careful cranberry juice stains. Its the same idea for your hair. After shampooing and conditioning your hair take a bottle of cranberry juice turn your head upside down in the shower and pour the cranberry juice on your hair and allow the water to run clear before flipping your head back over (tip: do this BEFORE you shave your legs)

Happy, Healthy Hair Is The Key To Aging Gracefully

Monday, July 21st, 2014

Simple nutrient might be all your hair needs to look full and healthy

While we talk a lot about skin, even healthy, young-looking skin won’t disguise your true age if your hair is a dead give-away. Thinning hair and even baldness often seem like inevitable parts of aging. But they don’t have to be. You can keep your hair as full, shiny, and youthful as your skin. A simple molecule might be just what you need.

I’ve told you in the past about nitric oxide. It is a signaling molecule. It contributes to circulation, which is key in keeping your hair and skin looking young. Since the skin is the body’s largest organ, it’s essential that blood be able to reach it easily. Nitric oxide helps your arteries relax, which improves circulation. And good circulation means that your skin — including your scalp and hair follicles — is getting the nutrients and oxygen it needs. Without these, it can’t continue to grow healthy hair, which eventually leads to thinning hair and baldness.

Your skin actually makes nitric oxide within the dermis, your second layer of skin. As your cells produce nitric oxide, the newly produced nitric oxide begins to regulate the activity of your hair follicles. Since nitric oxide is a signaling molecule, it helps the follicles know that they need to grow hair.

Your body produces nitric oxide on its own. But as you age, the levels it produces drop significantly. And that may be what contributes to the loss of healthy hair as you grow older. Fortunately, you can supplement what your body produces naturally. Adding a nitric oxide supplement, such as CircO2, to your routine will definitely help improve your circulation. And while no large clinical studies have been done to prove that supplemental nitric oxide can definitely reduce hair thinning as you age, many people have reported positive results.

So don’t let your hair detract from your youthful appearance. Make sure you are giving it what it needs to be
able to continue growing thick, strong, healthy hair that may not reflect your age but definitely reflects how you feel.

One final note: You may be taking hair nutrients such as biotin, omega 3 oils, zinc, vitamin D, etc. and your hair still is not where you want it to be. Sometimes simply adding the additional nitric oxide for a couple of months gets things jump-started because the additional nitric oxide enhances the utilization and absorption of your nutrients.

To your health, naturally,

National Hair Loss Awareness Month

Friday, August 6th, 2010

August is National Hair Loss Awareness Month. This brings attention to the matter and heightens awareness that hair loss is a serious concern to millions of individuals afflicted with the condition. Leonard Stillman, Director of Professional Services at Lexington International, LLC, home of the Hairmax LaserCombR Premium, put together some tips for taking charge of your hair loss and treating the condition early on. There are options for hair loss other than a baseball cap…thank you Mr. Stillman!

By Leonard Stillman, Director of Professional Services

1. Treat hereditary hair loss at its earliest stages:

Genetic or hereditary hair loss usually begins in the early 20′s for men and usually starts to show as a receding hair line at the front and thinning at the top of the head. From this point on hair loss tends to progress and not get better as shown in the Norwood Hamilton Classification of Hair Loss. By waiting and waiting to take action and not treating hair loss in the early stages, more and more hair follicles die off and once that occurs, no treatment will enable hair regrowth. Once the hair follicle is dead, it will never produce hair again … so don’t wait until it’s too late!

2. Make an informed decision as to when to treat hair loss:

Only when you are fully equipped with a good understanding of your condition and the treatment options available, will you be able to take charge, make informed decisions, and make a difference in your hair to positively impact how you feel about yourself. The internet is an excellent resource, but it is full of both good and sometimes misleading information. A few of the best resources are listed below. They are an excellent resource to get the best advice. They can help you make a sound decision as to when to see treatment for your hair loss.

American Academy of Dermatology

Bernstein Medical Center for Hair Restoration

Stanford Hospital and Clinics – Stanford Health Library

3. Realize that there are effective treatments available that can stop and in many cases help your hair to regrow:

Presently, there are 3 products that have FDA approval/clearance for hair growth and have been proven effective. Minoxidil is an over the counter ingredient widely available in many preparations, the prescription drug containing finesteride, and the HairMax LaserCombR, (pictured) a home use laser phototherapy medical device that has been proven to re-grow hair and prevent further hair loss. Also, there are many other products that are useful when used in conjunction with these products to help potentiate their effect. So you no longer have to have the attitude of, “nothing
works, so why bother”.

4. Visit your health care practitioner:

If you want some expert advice, then you should make an appointment with a health care practitioner for expert advice. Probably the best physician to see is a dermatologist who is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of hair loss. If you need to locate a dermatologist in your area, access and they have a physician locator.

Remember, hair loss IS treatable! The best chance you have to help control your hair loss is to do something about it when you first notice hair loss is occurring.
