Spa Week Preview for T Carlton’s Spalon on Long Island!

My whole family has been going to T Carlton’s on Long Island since I was in high school. This is long before they opened their doors on Nesconset Highway, when they still had their smaller establishment in the heart of St. James. So when I approached Spa Week about previewing the 50 dollar treatments that would be available during April 11th-17th, I was ecstatic to hear that I would be covering their salon.

For Spa Week, the T Carlton’s Spalon is offering the following:

  • 60 Min Citrus and Sage Luxe Massage Treatment
  • 60 Min Youth Enhancing Glycolic Facial with Eye Treatment
  • Laser Hair Removal for Neckline (for Men), Standard bikini or Underarms

Since I do not currently live on Long Island, I chose the weekend of my Mother’s 60th birthday to visit the spa, since I was going to be home anyway. When I was asked to trial the 60 Minute Youth Enhancing Glycolic Facial with Eye Treatment, I asked if I could pass it onto her and cover the experience from a third person perspective, since I did not think it would be an age appropriate treatment for me. T Carlton’s loved the idea so much they offered for us both to get a treatment. My treatment would be customized based on the Esthetician’s skin analysis so nothing too abrasive would be used on my skin.

When we arrived last Sunday, Corinne, the Spa Coordinator, gave us a tour of the facilities.  Our whole family had been to the salon, but my Mother and I had never been to the spa. (My sister was coincidentally there getting a facial earlier in the day, so it was definitely a family affair!) We cascaded down the stairs and were instantly in a place of zen. The lighting was low and the cave-like space just oozed relaxation from the moment we entered the space. We had an opportunity to view the treatment rooms before our session, see the sauna, area for manicures and pedicures, and the rooms designated for pre natal treatments and laser hair removal.

We were then escorted into our designated rooms and I had the honor of having Kerri do my facial. This was great since I ask a lot of questions and she is a wealth of knowledge! I was told that the 60 Minute Youth Enhancing Glycolic Facial with Eye Treatment at T Carlton’s is in the usual Euro-Swedish style, following the classic cleanse, tone, exfoliate, massage, steam, extraction, mask, and moisturize cycle, with the eye pads as an extra add on. I was told that this would usually go for $125-$135 with everything included. Since I was getting a customized facial, I got to try a few different alterations though.

We started with a milk cleanser, since my skin was on the dry side (damn tanning!). I learned from Kerri that I should use a milk-based cleanser versus a foam cleanser since the latter strips skin and is primarily for oily skin. Kerri used a fruit enzyme peel on my skin that is better for all skin types versus the glycolic acid, which is more specialized. The enyzyme peel eats up dead skin without irritating the face. While this was sitting, I was treated to a upper body massage with lavender oil, which differed from other spas where the Esthetician leaves you when treatments need to process. Also, from the peel that she used on my face, she was able to see where I had the most issues with my skin, and she advised to focus on these areas when exfoliating to minimize blackheads and dry skin. Then I had extractions done and Kerri recommended since everyone can’t get in every month for facials due to the economy, the change of the seasons is a good alternative to come in.

My favorite part of the facial, that of course is not part of the $50 treatments, but I would definitely recommend is the Re-Elasticizing Mask. At this point Kerri asked if I was claustrophobic, since she wanted to put the mask over my eyes and it tends to be heavier than most masks. I was fine with it and it was the most bizarre sensation I’ve ever experienced! It was like having a wet cold tar on your face, but I didn’t mind it! The mask is algae-based, brightens the color in your skin and the effects last a good 4-5 days! The mask tightens and firms skin, adds hydration, and repairs acne. I was interested to learn that people that are allergic to shellfish would not be able to utilize this mask since the algae is derived directly from the sea. Once the mask was peeled off in one rubber piece (!), Kerri used the Balancing Moisturizer with Vitamin C, which is perfect for people like me with combination skin. We finished the treatment with the eye pads, which get applied directly under the eye. They contain wine extract, Vitamin C, collagen, hyloronic acid, and are meant to remedy the bags under the eyes that we all accumulate from working far too hard. At the end of the session I was thoroughly relaxed and pampered.

My Mom received a fairly different facial for her skin type from her Esthetician, Claudette. She received a Super Rejuvenator Siganture Facial, with a Cucumber Exfoliating Cleanser, Chocolate Milk Cleanse, which adds moisture and my Mom said she could definitely tell it was chocolate, the Glycolic Peel, no stream, since it is counterproductive with this type of treatment, extractions, re-elasticizing mask, massage, toner and finished with the Hydrated Protective Cream.

T Carlton’s carries four different skincare brands to fit all skin types. They carry Sothys hydration line, HYDROPTIMALE® and Clarté & Confort Light cream and Protective cream from their Maintain line. They use Jan Marini for their Bioglycolic®  line. Cures by Avance`® was the line that was responsible for the epic algae mask and also carry Detox Body Wrap and Marine Pumas Scrub, which can also act as an enzyme on the skin. Lastly they use Glymed for their acne treatments, which is also great for their clients with Rosacea. According to Kerri and Claudette, there are different levels of strength of the Glyconic acid, so the Estheticians can work with you to find the best level for your skin type. The stronger the acid, the larger effect it has on your skin. The Estheticians recommended doing this treatment in a series, once a week for six weeks, but it also works well to boost skin for an event when you want skin to glow.

So what’s the bottom line? Getting a $50 facial at T Carlton’s with all the add ons you receive is a steal. You leave the Spalon with your skin feeling completely pampered and glowing and your mind set to ease with the utmost level of relaxation. The staff is very skilled in what they do and are highly versed in all the cutting edge products they use in the spa. I will most definitely be back to also take advantage of the special they offer at the end of each year called Spaliday, which is their annual savings pass that is good for the following year. For $175 you receive four treatments spread out every three months of the year, which is a value of approximately $1,100! They give you four choices of a treatment for each time period, so you get to choose a service that is right for you. My Mom has already agreed to give me that for Christmas! If you’re on Long Island, this is the spa to go to!
