Organic Cover-up

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Here’s my 100% Organic cotton swimsuit cover-up. I’m very pleased with this purchase not only are the stripes in style but its also green. By the way, it doesn’t take much expenditure to try to make those types of shopping choices when you do a little homework. I like to call it, skull shopping.

Downtown Divas

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

In the past year I’ve seen how the community where I live has grown so much.  Then, I attended Pretty City’s famous beauty sample sale when they finally came to Tampa in December ’09.  It was there where I discovered a very charming, very comely boutique named Downtown Divas.   Actually located right in the heart of my neighboring town of Riverview, FL.  Now you know this fashion lover, mmua! was thrilled to find out this type of shop now existed in her area.

owner Camille Schwabe

Opened in 2008 by Camille Schwabe, the pre-owned boutique was made over into one of the local’s top shopping spots.   Camille was motivated  into opening this shop because she truly enjoys providing fashionable clothes to others just as much as she enjoys to shop for herself.  Her own personal style is bohemian chic with a touch of glamour, and it reflects in the appearance of the boutique along with the styles carried.  Labels like STwelve, BB Dakota, LA Class, Diane De Lago, LA Flying Monkey & Miss Me can be found.   You may also find at least 3 pieces of each item in order to maintain it’s uniqueness, so that when the customer aquires something she can walk away feeling that she’s made a valuable purchase that not many others will be able to copy.  Speaking of valuable, the prices are at reach to most and not limited to just a select social class; If you know what I mean?

One more reason to shop and to show support for a local business with a warm, trendy vibe such as Downtown Divas.  As a member of the Jr Women’s Club, Camille also gives back by participating in education programs, and charities like the Teen Pregnancy Care Center.

My fave clothing item so far, is the blue & green printed dress,  shown here by Lowly

Lowly

It softly drapes & gathers in the middle to bring out curves, with kimono type sleeves.  Can it be bohemian or glam? Feel free to decide.

If you’re in the vicinity, do stop by to grab something special to wear on your date night or other occasion.  I really think it will be worth the drive to feel like a Downtown Diva.

Jump start, now!

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

I wanted to share my enthusiasm for another spring Nail hue I’ve acquired through Avon called Mulberry.  Looks like a mixture of mauve & berries.  Mmmm! almost sounds delicious but, be certain its tantalizing.  I enjoy knowing there’s No need to break a sweat just trying to wear this new beauty trend because it goes with a wide range of colors in your wardrobe including flower prints.  You can also use it to spruce up pastels.   So, if you have not gotten around to shopping for the latest spring/summer looks, simply spread the polish in warm mauve, or berry tones on your nails for an easy jump start.

Pure Vine Design & much more

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

I have crossed paths with a very interesting, and exceptional young woman who’s creative, talented, and possesses a beautiful heart. She’s a dreamer, has aspirations, is a wife, and mother who’s totally empowered by her faith, which makes her even more special.

N. Monique Brown, also designer of her label Pure Vine Design was discovered by Model 4 Jesus founder, Mayra Gomez.  Soon after she participated in the Life In Fashion, Fashion Show on March 6th, 2010. Monique’s designs are very new, fresh, and unique due to the meaning behind each design she creates.

So I sat with Monique for a one on one to try to get to know her, and just had to share with all of you readers.

Here it is:

When did you begin making designs on clothing?

I began designing in 2009; it wasn’t until I began to take the last of my courses in college that I recognized my love for the art of Graphic Design and began to experiment on materials such as package designs, canvas paintings, and clothing.

What do you love about what you do?

I love that with all the art that is present in the world I still have something to offer, display them on clothing. I enjoy taking something that is plain and simple making it into something interesting and unique, with a touch of class and authenticity.

Why do you love it?

It allows me to express myself and provide unique designs to people who enjoy thinking out side the box. It is a form of freedom and joy.

What is your purpose?

My purpose is to open a clothing boutique, to make Pure Vine Designs a house hold name. Impressing upon my customers to support green materials as well as support different human organizations here and abroad.

What inspired you to begin your own business?

I was inspired to begin my own business, when I learned that I would rather work hard for myself than anyone else. The thought that I can miss time with my children, was unacceptable.  I have been there and done that and felt there has got to be more to life. I have read and heard so many success stories on people who just took a chance and became successful I thought, “Why can’t I?”. My family also played a huge part in my decision to get out there on my own, my mother, husband even children encouraged me. I thought to myself, “Why not?” With GOD there is nothing you can’t achieve and be successful while doing it. Fear put my dreams and hopes on hold for years, now I can quote with confidence that GOD gave us not a spirit of fear but of love, peace, joy and a sound mind.

As you can see, the answers to the questions speak for themselves.  We also want to wish her much success as her career moves to new heights. You can view N. Monique’s designs at http://www.purevinedesign.com/

Natural/Organic transition

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

A couple of weeks ago  I had the pleasure of winning a mini spa treat for myself & 2 friends, since I  had gracefully placed my Style of  Shiloh business card into a drawing.

Location: The Body Shop (in my local mall)

I overlooked this store while heading straight for the other stores like Sephora, Bath & Body Works, and Victoria’s Secrets without giving it a second thought.  However; a recent unexpected skin breakout drew me to this store.  There it was, like a flashing sign telling me, “STOP here! STOP here!”  The reason? Everything at The Body Shop is made with natural ingredients.  While at this mini spa treat, I learned that the wise woman who founded The Body Shop in 1972 began with just a blender and her own natural recipes for skin care.  Is that motivation or what!?  So, I’m browsing through the products when I explained to the employee my skin care needs,  as well as the cause of my recent breakout.  After weighing out all the other products I use, it turned out to be a reaction to the ingredients in a tinted moisturizer I was using for the last couple of weeks which contains the ingredient Titanium Dioxide.  OK, back to browsing…The employee leads me to a line of products they carry called NUTRIGANICS.  Made 99% of the total ingredients from natural origin.  12% of the total ingredients from Organic Farming.  Also certified by EcoCert.  Using organic mallow flower, organic sugar, and babassu oil.   I then bought the foaming facial wash, moisturizing night cream, even the smoothing mask.  Got 50% off on top which made the whole journey to The Body Shop more pleasant.  Ha! ha!  NUTRIGANICS is doing great things for my skin.  My skin feels refreshed and supple in the morning, pores shrunken, my eyes looking smoother, brighter, and I dare to say more youthful.  I thought; Why not write about it? since many of us are now supporters of  “Green”.  I will surely be stopping more often at The Body Shop during my transition to natural products.  In addition, they also use proceeds to support a charity with an awe inspiring cause in Somalia.  Now I’m glad I listened to that flashing sign in my head.

Another tip to listen to:

Titanium dioxide is one of the whitest substances known and is used as a base pigment in many paints.  It is the active ingredient in a number of topical ointments and lotions.  Titanium is also used in the manufacture of alloys,  such as aluminum and iron.

FYI!  I do still enjoy shopping at Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works and Sephora.

Shovel away the boots?

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

But let’s not take the title literally; just place them in safe storage for the winter because I think it’s that time to roll out the summer sandals, pumps, and flats.  Or at least it is here in Florida, wink!  Normally, what I would do is make an assessment of my summer shoes, make sure they’re still in good conditions and compare them to the summer trends as well as my current wardrobe.

During my trend watch I cannot help but notice the:

Banded heels

Modern clogs

Cork soled wedges

Wooded platforms are all in fashion this season.

Since it’s still chilly in some parts, open-toed shooties are still being worn and also ‘in’.

Sounds like of some of these shoe styles have indeed walked a distance from 2009 into 2010.

Ahh! I couldn’t’ forget the colors.  They’re fresh as are the nudes, which elongate your stems.  Tan, gray, purple, blue and yellow are also part of the ever so feminine summer palette.

Seen are some of my favorite, maybe some of the shoes I’ll be walking in from DSW.  Yep! The affordable Designer Shoes Warehouse.

Jessica Simpson

Carlos Santana

Madden Girl

Chinese Laundry

Ciao Bella

Diba

So, what’s in your shoe rack? If you still have these styles then wear them stylishly this summer to add the extra oomph! To your look without having to go hunting, let alone shoveling through snow if you must have them now.

Make note: Remember to always walk in your own shoes because it is you whom makes your style unique.  Own it!

Coming soon! the great spring/summer looks that can be worn with your fab shoes.

My little piece of Sunshine!

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Just received another money savvy beauty product I ordered from Avon.

Nailwear pro nail enamel in Sunshine

It’s bright, in season, and matches just about any color clothing,  ie:
grays, blacks, browns
In addition, the yellow hue looks good on almost any skin complexion.
The polish lasts about 2 weeks with regular touch ups and I’m planning
on wearing it plenty this spring/summer, especially by the pool.
Mainly on my toes because I like to maintain my work appearance a tad conservative.

Tip:  Its not necessary to pay a lot on any type of nail or lip color that trends suggest. Due to the fact, most trends fade.
Better to spend a little more on the classics and basics.
