Rays on The Runway Fashion Show

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

There I was on the evening of 6/24 accompanied by my husband as we walked into Nordtrom’s, International Plaza and found ourselves caught in the midst of a crowd of Children’s Dream Fund donors, and fans of the Tampa Bay Rays snatching authographs on baseballs then taking photographs with the athletes.  Adults as well as children came to see the likes of Evan Longoria, Matt Garza, Sean Rodriguez, Carlos Pena, Jason Bartlett, Wade Davis & more, along with their wives.  To top off the enthusiasm felt throughout the store, the Rays had won their game against the Padres that same day.  However, the stars of this night were the kids of the Children’s Dream Fund Organization, whose participants were Emma, Gabriella, Hannah, Kaya, Mia, Blake, Cali.  These young beauties wowed every spectator, earning lots of applause, even stealing hearts as they took their strides down the runway.  Certainly deserving of the spot light, some of the outfits they wore were a safari print bubble dress by Zumie, Maxazria khaki silk military dress,  Paperdoll tropical sundress, couture pink tutu dress by Ohlala matched with leggings, Secret Charm black/gray evening dress, all of which were my favorites in the show.

The event was hosted by the Rays’ wives and I couldn’t agree more with Stephanie Wheeler when she explained that there was no better way to give back, after being blessed with 2 great kids and 1 on the way.  The wives worked the runway like pros, of course escorted by their husbands wearing some of the prettiest styles which in my opinion were:

Elizabeth and James blush top and Milly NY green corseted romper, worn by Kelly Bartlett

Agavelux taupe shirt & Tommy warm sand pants, worn by Matt Garza

Pink blue shirt and Hugo Boss gray suit, worn by Matt Garza

Halston black jumpsuit, worn by Katelyn Davis

Helmut Lang terrain racer back tank; Haute Hipie brown leather suede fringe skirt

After the show, I had the pleasure of speaking to Giselle Rodriguez who tells that she is just experiencing her 1st year with Sean Rodriguez in the major leagues as she expressed her gratitude for Sean’s mother who cares after her 2 toddlers while she travels to the games.  Giselle’s personal style is Urban plus glam, but she doesn’t hesitate to sport regular jeans with a pair of converse.  Now that’s being totally comfortable with yourself.  I  then spoke with Julianna Zobrist and found out there’s more to her than I imagined.  Julianna has also recorded a contemporary christian CD.  Her personal style, she says could be eclectic, rocker, or funky.  With possessing beauty, passion, and a voice, Ben must be very proud.

Being the first time the Rays on The Runway show has sold out, as you can imagine it was all worth it.  The cause was a very special one and I wish the Children’s Dream Fund much more success for giving hope to children, and allowing them to receive joy through adversity since 1981.  Thanks to the Rays & wives for adding fashion to the mix, and fund raising with panache.   Finally, as some went to continue celebrating what I would say both of their wins for the day.  I left thinking, “They brought it home!”

Designer Danittza Zimic is all about “Mi”

Danittza Zimic

The beauty of internet social networks is when a fad seeker like myself discovers a new designer whom as recent as May 2010 has launched her new clothing line designed for the Miami vogue or all others in the search for style.  Her pieces are now being snagged by boutiques all over the city at  a very fast rate.  Danittza Zimic is her name.  Ladies from Tampa or elsewhere, take note and scroll up to bookmark her website on your favorites after you’ve read this.

As of 5th grade her hobby developed into couture designs, but once Danittza was nestled in the city of Miami she took her designs from couture transforming them to suit Miami socialites, night owls who enjoy the event full life of the city and not least, the famous south beach goers.  Drawing inspiration from the queen bee of fashion Coco Chanel the creations are classy, yet bold and alluring.  Her line has something to choose from, if you are one who wants to show your favorite body asset.

Now rewinding a little for a tad of history on the Peruvian designer, Danittza Zimic.  During her journey to what she’s become, based in San Francisco she worked in the real estate business.  In recent times the economy began to take a down spiral when she could no longer profit from selling what used to be million dollar homes.   So she says to me, “Why not start over, finally doing something I loved.  It was no longer about the money, it’s about me”.   Her meaning of style is taking fashion and making it yours.  That is why she decided to name her clothing business “Mizmi”  The last 2 letters which stand for ‘me’ in Latin.  I can totally relate to that.  Packing her bags and heading east to Miami, Danittza had the guts to pull herself through the storm.  If that’s not motivational enough I’d also like to add that Mizmi shows gratitude for all of it’s quick success by adopting puppies and donating to the ASPCA.

Danittza’s next goal is having her own design house complete with cutters, samples, and displays.  She’s come a long way,  I have no doubt she can achieve this goal.  For all of the above reasons,  I was proud to wear one of her latest designs from the Mizmi 2010 Summer collection to attend the Rays on The Runway fashion show.  Watch out New York!

“Dash” of Spice!

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

On my last weekender in Miami, knowing I had missed visiting this place the time I was there before, I was determined to see it this time around.  For those that may or may not have the opportunity to visit or just have not heard about this Awesome little shop, it’s called “Dash”.   Owned by the popular celeb Kim Kardashian.  In case you’re thinking everyone in Hollywood has a boutique, clothes line, perfume, restaurant, and now a reality show.  Well it’s mostly true.   This is another one but,  it certainly gave that needed dash of spice to Miami Beach.

A small, quaint yet clean mod shop painted in white, pink, and black  exudes Kim’s style all throughout the store.  The clothing seemed suitable for gals measuring 5’0″ as well as 5’11”.  Of course, she’s about 5’1″ herself and well aware of how to flatter her figure.  If you’re in the vicinity of  Miami Beach, do remember to check it out yourself, do save up a few dollars and get ready to shop.  Otherwise, take a peek inside through my pics to see my favorite pieces from DASH.  Rumor has it she does stop in from time to time.

Clue from Blue

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Got a cue from Hollywood recently that provoked a wiggling of my toes!  I realized the cool tint effortlessly transitions  from poolside,  to a night out on the town,  from the beach to work;  and as seen on Jessica Alba’s feet while taking her stride on the red carpet.  Combine the polish with black, gray, denim, white, and then some to pump up your summer garments.

Now that I’ve shared the above, I thought I might add another tip of my own.  So I’ve worn this pleated skirt in 2 different ways and for this reason, separates give more versatility to my wardrobe.  Whether I want a clean polished look or put some zest in it, the answer to that equation is just 1 skirt.
