Oxygen Skin Therapy

May 17th, 2011 by VStylist Tamy

I couldn’t wait for last week to pass! It turned out to be one of those unexpected, very eventful yet stressful weeks. From flat tires to meeting appointments, and children school activities not a moments rest for a work-at-home mom. If you can relate then you know that you’d be looking forward to Friday. That’s because I was scheduled to get an Oxiana facial. Not knowing exactly what it was all about was more exciting, all I knew was that I was going to get some needed ‘me’ and relaxation time. So I arrived at the Absolute Wellness Center, where the facial began with a cleansing from my forehead to shoulders, warm towels applied, then creams with fruit extracts and minerals applied in massaging motion, warm towels again. Once the skin pores are open, oxygen infused with vitanomes was airbrushed onto my face continuously for about 15 minutes with the purpose of detoxifying the skin. I left with a glossy mask, recommended that you leave on for 1-2 hours in order to achieve the best results which would be reduction of fine lines, tightening, as well as skin marks from sun damage or hyper pigmentation. The Oxiana facial is especially useful for sun worshipers like those here in Florida. Thanks to the skilled aesthetician Shantell, I was able to say my week did have a very nice ending…

Here’s 2 photos of me after the facial and a few days later:

4 days after smoother skin, pores visibly reduced

Hats of Westminster Abbey

May 5th, 2011 by VStylist Tamy
On this past Historic Friday 4/29/11 at William and Catherine’s Royal Wedding, attendees like Victoria Beckham made headlines, not only due to their celeb status but their choice of outfits. Most notable, were ‘The Hats’. It seems customary of the people of London to wear hats to special occasions; But could this idea be slowly creeping into U.S. fashions?

I believe it could be.  Tampa, Fl has a local hat designer too, Neva Durham of Diva’s Joy adds some of that UK spice to styles everywhere.

While Victoria’s hat was pretty chic, her overall look was a bit gloomy for the occasion.

Beatrice, Princess of York over does it with the tallest bow hat along with a trench style dress that washes out her complexion.

images by google

Don’t try the above at home, instead wear these styles created by Neva which have been spotted on models at the new St Pete Dali Museum Grand Opening as well as on the Tampa Bay Fashion Week runway in 2010.

Wear a hat to a bridal shower, baby shower, with your Sunday best or just be a trendsetter by topping off your 40s inspired frock.  Although you may draw some attention, it will be the right kind.

Heading Outdoors

April 27th, 2011 by VStylist Tamy
This week my husband & I wanted to do something fun with our family to spend some quality time, so we took a 1 tank trip (or maybe less than 1 tank) and headed out to Dover Stables where one can go horseback riding and pay by the hour. After riding we then drove to Hillsborough River State Park where you can do nature hikes, canoeing or biking. We decided to try canoeing, must say it was a little adventure to remember and our family had a great time. But, the best part was
bonding time spent with animals and nature at a fraction of the cost we would have paid to go to a theme park. In thinking about that day, I thought it to be a good idea to share an idea of some things you can wear when you’re headed outdoors.

Zigi, Kenneth Jay Lane, Tory Burch, Issa, Naot Footwear
  • Loosely fitted, light & breezy tops when the heat is on
  • Rompers are easiest for an All-in-1 look ,add boots for hiking
  • Weather proof duck shoes in case of wetlands, always comfy sandals flat or heeled in case you’re seen elsewhere
  • Protect your face from sunbeam damage with a hat
  • Top off such laid back style with a bright tote

Take Those Stubborn Inches Off

April 21st, 2011 by VStylist Tamy

Days are warming up here in Florida, and while I stop to smell the blooming roses this time of year, here come the thoughts of summer, beach, sand, pool, and more. But am I ready for all the new adventures? Not quite, since my workout routine took about a 1 month hiatus. Needless to say, I’ve begun the exercise but I needed a quick boost and more so an incentive to stay consistent; so I scheduled an appointment at a quaint spa, A Caring Touch Skin Therapy.  The reason being, to get a body firming & toning wrap.  Despite, the many opinions about this wrap I was advised it works.  This type of body wrap is designed to give a lending hand to those parts of your bod where it cannot burn fat properly on it’s own nor rid you of toxins that otherwise remain stuck underneath your shell.

Owner, Rhonda McDaniels greeted me with a form to complete from skin issues to eating habits, as it’s important to know in order for her to determine your needs and fulfill them for your skin or body.  I was then directed into the treatment room where she begins by explaining the process:

Step 1: Measurements are taken of the arms, midriff, stomach, hips, thighs, calves in order to track any loss after the wrap treatment is done
Step 2: An allover body scrub, to open skin pores and activate the lymphatics
Step 3: Cotton cloth pieces are soaked in warm water and wrapped around you from shoulder to ankles
Step 4: You’re covered in thin foil paper plus sheets to preserve the warmth while waiting 35-40 minutes in dim lighting and relaxation sounds

During the waiting time, Rhonda proceeds to give me a facial massage in key areas which will also awaken the lymphatics. Time passed all too quickly, as the cloths were removed and measurements were re-taken when, to my surprise I’d lost a total of 13.5 inches overall. Even more so thrilled about the 4.5 I’d lost in my hip & thigh area alone!
My skin felt smoother and the appearance of minor cellulite appear no more. I am totally pleased with the results of just 1 treatment, although at least 4 are recommended if you want to achieve more.
May I also advise? Do try the body wrap as a quick solution for wearing that shapely dress that’s been waiting in your closet to a night out on the town. A Caring Touch Skin Therapy lived up to its name, giving kind, professional service by Rhonda who says she truly enjoys helping others reach their body image goals.

Miami Beach International Fashion Week March 5th, 2011

April 1st, 2011 by VStylist Tamy
It was day 3 of the events but for me,day 2. After learning the process of getting your media passes from the previous day everything else went smoothly, except I had only gotten 6 hours of sleep and a couple of hours of R&R, not much time for some fun right? Well I traveled for a purpose and that was to be
at MBIFW without missing a beat…There were 3 shows on the night of 3/5 surely to be fun to watch.  The 1st show was 1hr late but this tends to be a normality in fashion shows, so I took my seat on the 3rd row as I thought to myself, “Not too shabby”.

Over some noteworthy tunes it was off to a good start with the Pret-aPorter Style Showcase.  I decided I’d tell you about my favorites featured in the 1st show of the night, which were:

Eccentric Apparel who opened getting tons of “Awwws” from viewers when models stepped into the runway with dogs dressed in tees, shirts and dresses made for the cutest creatures we know.  “Pets fight to wear them” as their slogan, it couldn’t be more appropriate for the items they were toting.  I was pleasantly surprised with the start of the shows.

Ready-to-wear line, Luxxe Collections seconds the motion to cool casuals incorporating animal prints, light, breezy ankle length wraps, yoga pants that are wearable from the gym to a shopping spree; Must not forget, a very fly super wide belt.  Next came the mini top hat, a new accessory trend seen since the fall season yet still doable.

Boston Proper another fab ready-to-wear line is exactly what a Florida summer wardrobe looks like. Available for purchase via catalog or online, I would highly recommend the 30something gal who cares for glamour in her life to try the white suit, variety of colors, statement necklines or classy swimwear from the Boston Proper line.

Mariella Allaix stands out from the pack bringing all woven fabricated dresses, with accents of bright hues. Different, yet fresh classy and very femme urban wear, including textured swimsuits you would not wear to just lay out in.

As some mingled at the sponsor lounges, more people arrived to catch the 2nd sold out show, Latino Showcase where Adriana De Moura, from the Desperate Housewives of Miami was going to prove that she can work a catwalk just as well as the rest of them.

Giovanni Scutaro, Venezuela begins the next set of exhibitions in very high class gowns, made in silks, satin and chiffons. The type you might catch Sophia Vergara bearing at another celebrity awards show.  The preeminent array of colors of lime, blush pink, metallic, even royal blue were absolutely superlative of such a capable designer. The character of his collection representing Venus. If you spot a sudden glorious cluster of dresses in your local shops beware, it could be Mr Scutaro’s.

Claudia Bertolero, Peru followed up introducing cropped, wide leg pants yet mixing velvet & tweed into her looks.

Marcelo Quadros of Brazil drew eyes wide open due to his ever so alluring night gowns, attached to them were delicate beaded straps. But then, he marvels everyone with the famous LBD (little black dress) After seeing how haute these LBD’s were, my first thought was, “LA needs Marcelo!”

Eduardo Gonzalez, Columbia seemed he captured a love for sequin and lace channeling romance when adding the two fibers to all of his ladies’ styles; But, Frederico Visuetti created silk and velvet men’s suits with the most unexpected shades of purple and gold. For women he flaunts an entirely beaded skirt, as well as wool, open backs on dresses which are usually most flirtatious.  Last, demonstrating a sheer swimsuit that covers but still allows rays to seep through for those who love to bronze.

Miamian’s (people who live in Miami, per wiki-answers) consider the night to still be young when the 3rd and last show kicks off around 11ish…

Blue Island by Madelaine Morel just about gave me a toothache when the cutest child models conquered the runway in nothing but French inspired bright and flower embellished, shift style dresses. For the boys, nautical stripes, shorts plus button downs. Clothing made for the classy, fun loving parents, oops! I mean, the kids. Not to forget the handbags, sandals and headbands to match the girl’s outfits. Do I hear shopping spree with my little princess?

It wouldn’t be a fashion week without the shoes, when Paulina Anda displays her Makiatto designs served in rich hues, from red cowgirl boots to hot purple dress sandals. A one of a kind compilation, widely recognized in Venezuela.

Ana Carolina Valencia crafted a singular type of blending textures in white based designs each knitted with fringe, beading for decor. I learned she developed her techniques involving local artisans of Columbia. However, Ana can also dominate a captivating drape on a dress that will easily entice a shopper. Finally, Paulina Bedoya shone under the spotlights when her sketches paced the foot way in this season’s flowers in conjunction to frilly frocks, saturated in satin. A great closer to one of the most fashion frenzied evenings at Miami Beach International Fashion Week.

It was refreshing to know that there’s so much more out there to choose from, allowing us to continue to develop style in correspondent to who we are.  I hope to return next year for stupendous amounts of vogue fashion.

Miami International Fashion Week March 4th 2011

March 15th, 2011 by VStylist Tamy
My excitement builds up on the way to Miami where I went to cover the shows on March 4th & March 5th at the 13th annual Miami Beach International Fashion Week. Upon my arrival it turned out to be a hectic day from figuring out driving directions, parking spots and trying to make it on time to the media registration. Gotta say I was a bit flustered until,

at the media registration I was handed that bright orange, zipped case with Moroccan Oil full size samples inside, my grimace became a smile.  The sponsor for MBIFW came through for me.  I then headed back to my place of stay to prep for the event.

Evening 3/4
The hall was dimly lit, jewelry and accessory vendors on the right side with sponsor lounges on the left decorated in white lounge chairs, ottomans, serving free organic drinks, wines and even Puerto Rican expresso.
First show of the evening  was a Jamaica Collective: POSHE by Camesha Powello, Julan by Juliette Dyke, two finalists from Jamaica’s Mission Catwalk Designers Challenge.

After a 15 minute intermission the Men’s Showcase began with designs from:
Mauricio Alberino, of Italy giving the classic, distinguished guayabera (a light weight man’s shirt with pockets and sometimes tucks or embroidery, worn outside trousers) a spring of colors such as blue, pink, yellow on the vertical embroidery of the shirt. Then daring to make a bold statement with a bright green blazer.

Bata Spacojevic winner of the Miami Moda International Rising Star, his line cleverly titled Individual (means the same in both Spanish and English).  I would’ve called the 1st half of his segment “The Future of Rock” as he trends a leather short suit, laxed yet appropriate for such a place as Florida. Then in keeping with light weight fabrics of linen, very unrestrained shirts in grayish tones, proving he can also come up with bona fide resort, island wear nicely drafted by relaxed cargo pocket pants. Introducing us to a convoy of blazers with shorts finished in zippered pockets through out. But it wasn’t over until “Today’s Mad Max” (I tweeted this one if you were following) in his satin blended trench coat stalks the runway covering a netted shirt. Bata proves that his design skills are truly diverse, that explains his win at MBIFW.

Robert Flores of Dominican Republic designs moved in with black suits, you could hear the ooohs and ahhhs…Suits of faultless tailoring, from the fine and precipitous lines of the pants to the adapted blazer. Also using red to make a point of it. In the likeness of the 80s he shows a leather bomber and satin pleated, tapered pant notably like the Cavaricci.

In my personal opinion, Marithe and Francois Girbaud of France, existing since 1964 were my most favored of the men’s showcase. Bringing a European insouciant style.  Layered sweaters, long sleeves and cardigans escorted by the notorious low rise denim.  Fedoras are still in cosmopolitan while pink, nude, red, blues with stripes and plaid prints all counterbalanced the get-up.  It reminded me of our prominent Lucky Brand exempt from a more keen hierarchy in men’s apparel as the type I witnessed on this catwalk.

The next part of the Fashion Shows would be Ladie’s Evening wear:
Opening, Rocky Gathercole from Dubai illustrates a complete chain dress, followed by feathers, lots of sequin detail and corsets attached to wings.  The designs compatible to a vegas show, yet beautifully crafted.

Franco Montoro, Venezuela exposed his quilt textured jackets, 2 piece suits and a super deep plunge cropped jacket all in an intense array of royal blue, hot pink, champagne and bronze. Every piece infused with linen. Each of the garments certain to be authentic.

Patuna Bushyhead, Rep of Georgia is one designer to keep an eye out for.  As I would name her line “Ethereal”, she was classified as another one of my favorites. Using sheer soft chiffon to make a dreamy flowing dress, A line, as well as off the shoulder commensurate to what a Goddess would wear. I believe the dresses to be a likely representation of the new caftan of 2011.  I was then more so perplexed with her cunning stone and bead embellished hooded gowns, curve hugging, 2 foot train built in.  If they weigh at least 5 lbs I say, “totally worth the work out”. One could imagine a Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, or Gwyneth Paltrow just floating accross the red carpet in any of her gowns.  In my eyes, Patuna Bushyhead is the most talented designer of MBIFW.

Damaris Rubio from Dominican Republic suddenly transports the audience to a Swedish number of styles in a radiant spring colors including those you’ve seen on all SS 11 trend reports.  Damaris is versed in ruffles, plus plenty of texture, while adding tassels as belts or drawstrings.  The frocks were seemly from a daytime wedding to a cocktail party. A feel for femininity and romance could not be ignored, given the funnel necklines, satin as well as sheer fabrics, short A line skirts.

Last designer/artist Baron Samianto Levon, US conveys Art in fashion to spectators.  Seen was a violin instrument attached to a metal vest, landscaped paintings on a wide circle skirted frame of a gown.  Yet Mr Levon constitutes a business suit for the 20th century that made me pleased to see on a more mature male model rather than the usual pinups. He’s a rare ingenious designer.

This culminates the night of shows on 3/4. Needless to say I was overwhelmed with fashion but already eager for the next day’s shows on Saturday 3/5, stay tuned…

Sound Healing Treatment At AWA Spa

March 3rd, 2011 by VStylist Tamy

I was invited to the open house at AWA Spa of Tampa to try the Sound Healing treatment.

Sound Balancing is an ancient treatment that helps reduce stress and create a deep sense of well being using the effect of sound. During this is a deeply meditative treatment, multiple vibrational sounds are played, on and around your body, to give you the feeling that you are bathing in an ocean of harmonious sounds.

I quickly felt relaxed but, the plus is I went in with a mild headache and after having the treatment done it was gone. Not to forget a soothing I felt that stretched from the top of my head and down my spine to the lower back. Afterwards, as I walked into the indie decorated room and drank my cup of tea, I felt the surroundings to be like that of a holistic garden. It was a great afternoon to be treated by the aestheticians at the AWA spa like I deserved it. If you’re ever in the area, do give the Sound Healing a try.

Oscars 2011 My Top 3 Dress Picks

March 1st, 2011 by VStylist Tamy

Wow! Seems like just yesterday we were scanning the magazine sections and digging through the endless google images just to view the beautiful gowns that the celebrities wore on 2010 Oscar night in case you missed it on TV. Well for the 2011 Oscars as a fashion luva and style setter myself, I usually tend to enjoy the pre-show more than the actual awards.
I also hear the red carpet pre-show has and will be the biggest fashion show of the year.
As far as fashion goes, there was a lot to like. But as far as style goes my opinion is, there were only 3 who set the bar on Oscar night.

#1 Halle Berry

stunning in a Marchesa gown, the tulle filled train and creamy blush color was spell binding

#2 Sandra Bullock

Takes Red to another level with Vera Wang Yes mam! There were lots of great styles in this color. But, I think this gown was perfection.

#3 Mila Kunis

her choice for lilac by Ellie Saab was the best display of pastels on the carpet, leaving the rest with rug burn.
