See The Rays On The Runway For The Children’s Dream Fund

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a very meaningful show as titled above. This is a yearly event where the Tampa Rays athletes partner up with The Children’s Dream Fund to raise money for children that have been diagnosed with a life threatening disease to provide them with an opportunity to experience their own dream.

In speaking with a newcomer to the event, Heather Powell she expressed how wonderful it is to have a foundation that wants to do something for ill children so when she was asked to participate, she accepted without a second thought.

Did you know? Most of the shoes worn by the wives were by Jimmy Choo…

I want to wish all the best to the kids of  The Children’s Dream Fund who participated:

Rays on The Runway Fashion Show

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

There I was on the evening of 6/24 accompanied by my husband as we walked into Nordtrom’s, International Plaza and found ourselves caught in the midst of a crowd of Children’s Dream Fund donors, and fans of the Tampa Bay Rays snatching authographs on baseballs then taking photographs with the athletes.  Adults as well as children came to see the likes of Evan Longoria, Matt Garza, Sean Rodriguez, Carlos Pena, Jason Bartlett, Wade Davis & more, along with their wives.  To top off the enthusiasm felt throughout the store, the Rays had won their game against the Padres that same day.  However, the stars of this night were the kids of the Children’s Dream Fund Organization, whose participants were Emma, Gabriella, Hannah, Kaya, Mia, Blake, Cali.  These young beauties wowed every spectator, earning lots of applause, even stealing hearts as they took their strides down the runway.  Certainly deserving of the spot light, some of the outfits they wore were a safari print bubble dress by Zumie, Maxazria khaki silk military dress,  Paperdoll tropical sundress, couture pink tutu dress by Ohlala matched with leggings, Secret Charm black/gray evening dress, all of which were my favorites in the show.

The event was hosted by the Rays’ wives and I couldn’t agree more with Stephanie Wheeler when she explained that there was no better way to give back, after being blessed with 2 great kids and 1 on the way.  The wives worked the runway like pros, of course escorted by their husbands wearing some of the prettiest styles which in my opinion were:

Elizabeth and James blush top and Milly NY green corseted romper, worn by Kelly Bartlett

Agavelux taupe shirt & Tommy warm sand pants, worn by Matt Garza

Pink blue shirt and Hugo Boss gray suit, worn by Matt Garza

Halston black jumpsuit, worn by Katelyn Davis

Helmut Lang terrain racer back tank; Haute Hipie brown leather suede fringe skirt

After the show, I had the pleasure of speaking to Giselle Rodriguez who tells that she is just experiencing her 1st year with Sean Rodriguez in the major leagues as she expressed her gratitude for Sean’s mother who cares after her 2 toddlers while she travels to the games.  Giselle’s personal style is Urban plus glam, but she doesn’t hesitate to sport regular jeans with a pair of converse.  Now that’s being totally comfortable with yourself.  I  then spoke with Julianna Zobrist and found out there’s more to her than I imagined.  Julianna has also recorded a contemporary christian CD.  Her personal style, she says could be eclectic, rocker, or funky.  With possessing beauty, passion, and a voice, Ben must be very proud.

Being the first time the Rays on The Runway show has sold out, as you can imagine it was all worth it.  The cause was a very special one and I wish the Children’s Dream Fund much more success for giving hope to children, and allowing them to receive joy through adversity since 1981.  Thanks to the Rays & wives for adding fashion to the mix, and fund raising with panache.   Finally, as some went to continue celebrating what I would say both of their wins for the day.  I left thinking, “They brought it home!”
