7 Simple Skincare Tips for Traveling
Spring fever is in the air, and the desire to leave the cold winter for a tropical beach has never been stronger! Yet before you depart, be sure to remember these 7 simple skincare tips from Elizabeth Grant’s Beauty Director Margot Grant Witz: www.elizabethgrant.com
1) Know the liquid rules! Nothing is worse than not being able to travel with your fave products. Make sure all your products are 100ml’s or less. Also, no sharp objects allowed, so make sure you are well groomed before embarking on your journey.
2) Make sure you travel with your basic routine: this should include a cleanser, moisturizer (ideally with SPF) lip balm, serum and hand cream. Don’t be afraid to use them often in flight. Why? Air travel can dry skin out pretty quickly – you don’t want to look worn out before landing. Bringing your favorite products with you on your flight allows for easy application before departing the plane.
3) Consider your destination when choosing your skin care essentials. Going somewhere hot and sunny – make sure SPF is in your bag, after sun care, and light – if any – moisturizer. Traveling somewhere cold and balmy – bring heavy-duty body lotions and a heavier facial moisturizer.
4) You want your skin to be able to breathe (this includes your eyelashes) – board the plane with clean and hydrated skin. Use a tinted moisturizer as opposed to pore-clogging foundations, and if you have oily skin, bring blotters to help soak up the oil during flight (this will also allow your skin to breathe with ease).
5) For long trips, bring eye drops to hydrate and soothe your eyes. When you land, put some crushed ice cubes under your eyes to reduce puffiness that result from changes in air pressure in the cabin.
6) Are you a fan of taking ‘cat’ naps during the flight? Before you doze off, apply an eye moisturizer and eye mask – both of these not only help you rest, but will give you a look that is fresh and relaxed when you wake up.
7) Remember to keep your hands off your face to help minimize breakouts. Although this seems simple enough, no one really pays attention in flight about how often ones’ hands find their way to the face. There is A LOT of bacteria 10, 000 feet up in the air: so many people forget about the simple things, such as the importance of WASHING ONES HANDS before applying skin care or make-up.
