Increasing Hair Color Retention

Monday, January 21st, 2013

Stylists have all sorts of tips and tricks up their sleeves…tips like HOW TO KEEP THAT COLOR THAT JUST COST $300! Patrick McIvor, Artistic and TechniCulture Director for Goldwell and KMS California Hair Care, uses Goldwell® Dualsenses® Color Lock Serum to prolong color retention for up to 22 shampoos!!

Color Lock Serum

“I find sealing color in directly after a color service with Dualsenses® Color Lock Serum is one of the best ways to prolong a vibrant hue,” says McIvor. Color Lock Serum is formulated with ColorChromaComplex to instantly lock in color after an application. It intensifies color brilliance keeping it vibrant and shiny for up to 22 washes. Whether it’s unnatural cartoon color, pale steel, street chic, sun-kissed buttery highlights, vibrant red, dipped ends, bombshell brunette or the deeper darker hues seen at The Golden Globes, when an investment is made in color (no matter how small or large) it should pay off! Check out McIvor’s Pinterest Boards for more color inspiration.

Other McIvor tricks include….

• Coloring hair one shade darker to offset fadage.

• Shampooing (with warm, not hot water) and conditioning every other day to minimize color deterioration.

• Using shampoos and conditioners with innovative formulates specifically for color-treated hair such as the FadeStop formula in the Goldwell® Dualsenses® Color Care line designed for unsurpassed color retention.

• Refreshing with a glaze between foiling appointments.

Patrick McIvor is Artistic and TechniCulture Director for Goldwell and KMS California Hair Care (divisions of Kao USA Inc., a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Kao Corporation) and founder of HI :) Media Solutions (a subsidiary of Patrick McIvor Color Studio, Inc.) Celeb Alert | Sonja Tremont-Morgan’s RED HOT Hair by Angelo David Salon

Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

Real Housewives of New York star

Ditches her blond locks and WIGGED it with a RED HOT look for one night

Sonja Tremont-Morgan

Sonja Tremont-Morgan of the Real Housewives of New York approached hair extension guru Angelo David of the Angelo David Salon for the GLAAD Awards, which were held on August 7, 2012, in hopes to do something different with her hair.

Angelo decided to do something high fashion, to make her stand out and went the red hair route to complement her skin tone and eye color. He used an Angelo David Couture Wig, made with 100% premium European hair, which was custom colored for her. Her hair was prepped for the wig by creating two separate ponytail sections then securing it with a wig cap in order to hold natural hair taut.

Once the wig was in place, he added contrast by pulling a small section of her fringe to create a signature highlight which worked perfectly with the red tone he created. Sonja’s hair was then sprayed with Angelo David Premier Volume spray before blow-drying with a large round brush. He then created subtle texture and waves using a medium sized curling iron nd and finished the look with light hairspray.

How to Bevel Fringe

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Sam Villa, Founding Partner of the Sam Villa® Brand and Education Artistic Director for Redken 5th Avenue, offers a quick and easy way to bevel fringe without using a blow dryer and brush.

Style by Sam Villa

“I’ve been using a flat iron and comb to bevel fringe, it’s fast and a simple technique that anyone can do. The trick is to never actually close the iron. When you close the iron you can get a crease, but the heat from the open iron is enough to alter the bonds and allow reformation,” explains Villa.

Beveled Fringe

·Pick up a fringe section and place the hair in the teeth of a fine tooth comb

·Horizontally place the Sam Villa SLEEKR® flat iron around the section at the base and slowly rotate the iron down and under without closing. Since the iron is round, the heated hair takes on the beveled shape.

It’s as simple as that.  To learn more about Sam Villa and to view a video of  how to bevel fringe,  visit: www.samvilla.com
